There's not really any 'correct' way of doing rankings. There's just different methods. The SMH/DT ranks use the most widely accepted and recognised method though. (and i've done full rankings in the past using that method)
do it again it would only take up 1/1000th of your CPU's processing power.

According to the Better Education source, BWB went up to 138th this year. Looks like we actually did a lot better than we thought. Thought we would be in the 200s. Challenge for next year's BWB - make it into the top 100 :)

My school moved from 154 to 151. Not a large jump but it's good to see that we're ahead of last year's cohort. :)

Damn, did some calculations, I realized that the rankings in the Better Education website were primarily done by English and Maths rankings, none of the other subjects were taken into consideration. You add up the total DAs in English + Maths, then divide it by the total number of exams in English + Maths. And that's their methodology, I suppose.

Apples and oranges. You can't compare the better education rankings to past years rankings. They use different ranking methods.

Not too sure why people get so worked up about these rankings anyway. They reveal more about the choices made by a particular cohort rather than the competency of a school to teach effectively.

Indeed. It's much better to look at the value adding of an institution. i.e comparing results of earlier years to later years and measuring the improvement.

Well said. I think the overall message of these rankings could be communicated more effectively through the use of bands rather than plain ranks.

can someone please ask better education to do full ranking list of %DA?... maths and english are great, but only a small part of what most schools do... alternatively, it's be awesome if some really clever person could do it anyway... i'm sure for someone it's not too hard...
