Hey I went to Bali for schoolies last year - I recommend not staying in Kuta for too long - it's pretty dirty. It is way nicer on the east saide Sanur or something and only 20 minutes in a taxi (which is ridiculously cheap).
If you want to just get drunk all the time - go to the gold coast.
Go to Bali if you're excited about partying with your friends and drinking - but also seeing a different part of the world.
And I wouldn't worry about the threats I went straight after the bali bombers were executed apparently the worst time - and there was a bomb threat at the bounty one night - but it's safe - security everywhere.

i live on the gold coast and seriously wouldnt recommend going!!
infested with 13 and 14 year olds with no control, quite a turn off
