Can someone who starts first year with a Commerce/Science double degree transfer to Arts/Law by second or third year? (UNSW btw)

Probably not. You'd need to start in a BA then internal transfer to the BA/LLB

pure stupidity

the two have absolutely nothing in common, all of the subjects you do in the first year wont count at all. If you are going to try and transfer you start with something that is similar to what you want.

Also, I am pretty sure you will fail science/commerce subjects anyway because you failed to get a high enough atar to get in straight away, suggesting you most likely didnt put much effort in for your hsc .

science/commerce is not that easy!!, and arts/law on the other hand is the biggest bludge ever

at usyd apparently info day said u can transfer in from any degree but u just need to complete the full years. e.g. com/law = five year so say you did something like psychology and trasnferred in, u have to do another 5 year in addition to the 1 year of psychology.

but apparently u must have at least an atar of 95+ or something unless u manage to scrape a HD average during 1st year or something. The atar minimum rule does not apply if you can achieve outstanding 1st year results so I am guessing you are looking at a HD average.

You can transfer from any degree, but from Sci/Com to Arts/Law you probably wouldn't get any credit so you'd have to do the full five years. They're wildly different courses, but I know people who have transferred from Arts/Law to Engineering, so it does happen. You would need a high average though.

Since it's a double degree you probably can't transfer credits GG. However psychology could be done in science and is part of arts. That being said you might be able to transfer but need to catch up in terms of credit points.
