I am a beginner programmer, currently designing a program for an ATAR calculator for my SDD project. Currently I have some trouble working out how to calculate the percentile and scaled mark of each individual subject. I know that this atar calculator corresponds to the results of 2012 HSC UAC A3 table.
I don't know exactly how the percentile and scaled mark is actually calculated. I tried some time of forumla, but the results weren't very precise. I also tried standard deviation, mean and z score derived from the A3 table but somehow did not get an accurate percentile ranking. As for the scaled mark, I have no clue as to how it is calculated. I want it to be similar to the Matrix ATAR calculator , since it is quite accurate.
If it helps, I am using Visual Basic to develop this program.
