19 is definitely B. When you borrow money you increase your debt to equity ratio which is gearing so you increase your gearing. Your solvency is your ability to repay your long term debts, so with a new long term debt your solvency is decreased.

Hmm... I thought the answer to 19 was A. Because isn't solvency increased for the overseas subsidiary because it was the Australian Hat Company who borrowed the funds not the overseas subsidiary. So the solvency of the australian hat company is decreased, but the solvency of the overseas subsidiary is improved because they are not the ones borrowing the money.

well that was my thought, i first thought B but after thinking about it, i became more inclined to think it was A

3.C -- WRONG

This question asks you which type of market Academic Electronics is SERVICING.

The manufacturer of computer systems is buying microchip components "that go into producing other products" i.e. making computers.

So the manufacturer is part of the INDUSTRIAL market.

Question 3 should be B

I got
19. A
20. B

For 19, it seems the explanation was given.

For 20, you know that corporate raiding HAS to be an option, because that's what they did -- i.e. they purchased underperforming and undervalued companies.
Then you have to choose between asset stripping and inappropriate cut-off periods. Well, the definition of asset stripping is buying companies in order to sell, at market value, assets that are undervalued on the balance sheet. Inappropriate cut off periods refers to choosing a cut-off period where significant revenues are separated from the costs associated with them.
However, when you are looking at plant and equipment, it is nigh on impossible to see how choosing any particular cut-off period would result in a 48% under-valuation.
Which led me to believe that asset stripping was the logical answer .. even though 'Inappropriate Cut-Off Periods' comes under 'Audited Accounts' in the syllabus.
