but there's another english class (i think its victorian literature) where you actually study shakespeare! yay!
I'm doing that one (along with 20thC modernism, US writing, and Lit&Cin from what I remember), but I sure don't remember Shakespeare being on the text lists. As Rafy said, that kinda sorta makes no sense eh? Here's what they listed for 09:

"The Norton Anthology of English Literature, volume 2B. The Victorian Age. (Students who own The Norton Anthology, 7th edition, vol. 2, the book for 'Inventing Modernity (ENGL1015), do not need to buy The Victorian Age). Dickens, Great Expectations (Penguin) Eliot, Middlemarch (Everyman) Additional material may be included in a Course Reader."

Great Expectations should be excellent. (EDIT: Yeah it was the other subject.)

Interestingly, ENGL1000 is WRIT1000 from next year, so there was only one year where ENGL1000 could be counted towards senior English courses. We capitalised on that well.

EDIT: Now I can pretty much plan out all of my next year, which is convinient! :D

S1:
CHEM3111 - Organic Structure & Reactivity :D
BIOL2016 - Cell Biology
ENGL2638 - Literature & Cinema
PHIL2645 - Philosophy of Law

S2:
CHEM3115 - Synthetic Medicinal Chemistry :D :D (this subject's gonna be awesome)
ENGL2629 - Victorian Literature
ENGL2623 - Twentieth Century Literature: Modernism
PHIL2617 - Practical Ethics

Re: Semester 2 Chatter Thread

So these courses are all up and confirmed for next year already? I wasn't aware that they changed so much :/

blah, 1,900/1,500 for word count, even more if i count bibliography :/

400 words need to die somewhere...or at least 250 to be within the +10%.

Yay about ENGL1000, at least that was good for something.
But why are you taking Vic Lit and 20thC modernism Neb? Yuckkkk. As much as I love modernism, I don't think I could properly grasp it at a uni level.

Lit&Cin looks okay though.

Re: Semester 2 Chatter Thread

2009 ancient history = very disappointing.

sem 1
ANHS2601 Ancient Imperialism
ANHS2612 Historiography Ancient and Modern
ANHS3611 Research Issues in Roman Studies
(only one standard senior course in first semester, wtf?)

sem 2
ANHS2605 Ancient Greek Religion
ANHS2611 Greek and Roman Magic
ANHS3610 Research Issues in Ancient Greek Studies

at least alastair, julia and kathryn are all teaching. would be nice to know what topic paul roche will be doing in ANHS3611 though.

lol the course in Ancient Greek and Roman magic sounds fun :(

You could do a comparative analysis with Harry Potter

magic does sound cool, yeah:

This unit will provide students with a grounding in the most important aspects of Greek and Roman magical practice. Students will acquire an understanding of the socio-cultural perceptions which informed the use of magic; gain a sense of whether certain types of magic were sex-specific; ask to what extent erotic magic can be seen as empowering; consider whether magic can be legitimately demarcated from religion; come to understand the reasons for the hostility of Greek and Roman authorities to magical activities.

plus, take-home exam! unfortunately i have to choose between it and ancient greek religion, which is run by julia kindt (massively awesome). so that's going to be a tough decision.

Re: Semester 2 Chatter Thread

I was just looking at Greek and Roman Magic. It's probably the only interesting ANHS subject for next year. Lame. :(

I want to take JCTC2606 as well. :D
This unit provides an in-depth study of the Holocaust. Special emphasis will be placed on the development of Nazi ideology, in particular racial antisemitism, and the gradual implementation of this policy towards the Jews and other victim groups from 1933 to 1945. Other themes focus on the responses of the victims and the role of the by-standers, as well as post-war politics of memory and other issues, including Holocaust denial and war crimes prosecution.
Yay Hitler! Gotta love Nazi Germany.
