It's a tad difficult with only one model and an odometer reading to go by. How about you pad it out a little, and more people will be able to constructively help you, instead of plucking a make/model combo out of thin air. So maybe (some of) the following -

Manual/Auto?
FWD/RWD/AWD?
Saloon/Coupe?
Euro/Jap/Aus/US?
NA/FI?
I4/V6/V8?
Year?

coz like i want to do it up n shit as well ie: rims, muffler, body kit
Lancer? ;)

haha yeah ur right, im an idiot

- i want either manual or auto
- not awd (dont need it)
- year doesnt really matter, just needs a good engine, like as long as the cost of running doesnt extend to like heaps of repairs n stuff
- seeing as it's my first car, id giv v6 or higher a miss, coz it wud cost more, im happy with a relatively small engine, coz ill be thrashing my car like a bitch
- any country

hmmm i hav seen tonnnnnes of lancers... theyre prob one of my likely choices
i also like nissan pulsars, i like the chrome grilles
andddd yeah mazda 323's would look good done up also

If I were you, I'd go for a Honda Civic. Easy to run, reliable car, easy to insure.
Try and go for a VTi-R hatch or even try this coupe.

Toyota Corollas are good aswell. Good engines, reliable, easy to fix and quite roomy for what they are.
PS. Don't waste your money on cars dude, it's not worth it. Try and find something already tastefully modified, (wheels, springs, part/full soundsystem etc).

Hmmm

Toyota Corolla
Ford Laser/Mazda 323
Honda Civic
Nissan Pulsar
Mitsubishi Lancer

Slightly older check out:
Honda Integra
Mitsubishi FTO

Bear in mind that modding up your car is going to cost some considerable dollars, for rims (and tyres), exhaust, body kit and presumably sound a $5000 budget would not be unreasonable.

Oh and Raj is on the right track because of the huge depreciation of mods rather than say buying a car for $10K, modding it for $5K and being out $15K in total it is possible to buy an already modded car for $12K thereby saving you $3K.
