For Shakespeare texts like Richard (III), how would I approach reading it? (Read English part and then normal) and how many times is recommended to go through it?

You don’t necessarily have to read the “English” part unless you don’t fully understand the original Shakespearean version. I think you should try your best to read it in Shakespearean and only use the English section as an aide if you get stuck.

Perhaps take notes of or flag quotes that appear to be important/useful and that way you can turn back to those sections to use, rather than having to reread the whole play.

Just read it like once and then flick through again when you are deciding on quotes. The main thing with HSC english is to get the reading part over quickly and focus on drafting essays and then progressively making it better over several revisions with the help of a teacher/tutor for marking
