My second point was that perhaps there were higher returns on factors despite wages such as high returns on capital gains, causing people to exit the job market.

It was an act of desperation though

thats right! i remember what i did now thanks.

i wrote that yea something like the welfare benefits of being unemployed were more desirable then employment that may provide a small difference in incomes.
