Hello,

Top 10, or even top 5? Aiming to reach higher at the moment.

What are some simple ways to rank that little be higher?

To study more... ? You should also always try to reach the highest possible rank, which is 1 :]

Simple in theory, get better percentages than the other people. Hard in practice because most people develop work ethics in Yr 12.

With HSC there is no magic number - you need to aim as high as possible i.e. 1.

Hmmm I see....

Well I am really trying hard this time. I mean, I am quite happy as the top student in my society class is dropping it, so maybe I have a better chance at getting a good rank! But I know in year 12, we start a new, and so the yr 11 ranks will be wiped off.

Also, is having an ATAR goal a good idea?

I have been thinking about it, and it seems like, what if you do not even reach it, wouldn't it make you feel dissapointed at the end? I am trying to be realistic too, and personally, I think I can get over 80+, even 85+ - but 90, not too sure. I am still trying to believe in myself!

Just work as hard as you can and make sure that whatever you submit is your absolute best effort; if it is, it will reflect well in your results and ranking. It's absolutely better to aim for 1st because then you aren't making compromises with yourself and saying well it doesn't matter if i don't try my best, because this can lead to your aim of 5th being realised as a rank of 15th because everyone else has tried.

An ATAR goal is a really good idea, and tbh, I would probably aim higher than what you think you're capable of because it will push you to try to achieve at that level, similarly with the ranks. 90+ is really good, and from the sounds of you, achievable if you work hard. What i've tried to do is use a high ATAR to push me, but then following my HSC i'll convince myself that I don't need that or there's no way i've achieved that and convince myself that i'll get something far lower than is at all likely. It sounds weird but then you have positive enforcement when you need it, then later when you get your results you'll be happy with whatever you get because you've convinced yourself that you didn't think you did that well.

Sorry for my weird advice, but it really works for me because i've done it with marks before. Hope that helps! :)

Should you be? Probably.

Will you be? That's up to you.

Thanks bigbirdbanana! Your comment has helped me!

And Aerath, that is what I must remember, that I can do it if i work hard and to not leave it to the last minute. This way, I can have an advantage over some who may be taking it easy now...

That is true, if you try really hard now you can lead by a few marks which may very well make you rank first at the end of year 12

Yes, you should work hard to do as well as you can and if that means being in the top 5-10, then so be it! Just try not to have any regrets with the work you've put in throughout the year!

Tips to maximise your marks - well I'd say really have a good, strong set of notes, get these together early, give yourself plenty of time to revise the material, do practice questions and get feedback from your teachers, get plenty of rest and you should be able to stay on top of things! :)
