Im sorta entertaining the idea right now. What do you guys reckon?

The possible advantages are:
1. Time to travel
2. Work- get $$$
3. life experience
4. party
5. have fun
6. prepare for the umat seriously
7. finish my music theory so i can get my 8th grade piano to get extra 3 atar points.

The possible disadvantages are:
1. Lose 1 year of my life
2. Might bludge and waste the time away
3. Bludge this year because the pressure of umat and piano is off
4. universities will not consider me as well? LIke give my place to someone else who came straight from hsc.
5. lol be stuck with the year 11s when i come into uni :p

p.s. im not sure if i posted this in the right forum.

the chance of you becoming lazy after one year of no study surpasses all the advantages alone

I guess the main question is will you use the gap year to your advantage or not. It's YOUR choice when it comes to bludging.

If your parents don't plan on giving you shit, and you're ineligible for government benefits, then yes I would work for a year and save up some dosh. Working and studying full time would be a killer.

If you're lucky enough to live at home/pay for college/live with friends while attending uni, then I'd go straight there.

gap years are for complete retards and white people
gap years could be good or bad... depending on your situation and how you use your gap year. probably not recomended if you will struggle to exercise self-control and bludge.

and don't listen to ignorant fools like hungwell who have no idea what they are taking about.

stfu u stupid scrub. look at the OPs reasons for wanting a gap year

The possible advantages are:
1. Time to travel - 4 months not enough?
2. Work- get $$$ - full time work during hols/part time job at uni not sufficient?
3. life experience - theres shorter programs held within uni breaks to "make a difference" in crapistan
4. party - .....
5. have fun - ......
6. prepare for the umat seriously - if you were unsuccessful chances are you will be unsuccessful again
7. finish my music theory so i can get my 8th grade piano to get extra 3 atar points. - you may as well put some effort in uni, transferring isnt all that hard

i happen to know 5 people in my graduating class that have taken a gap year because of reasons listed above, and its been a waste of a year to say the least

stfu you retarded fuck, my comment was a generalisation - not just for the OP. i made the generalised comment cause you made retarded comments such as" gap years are for complete retards and white people ". so read what i wrote u illiterate fuckwit. gap years CAN be good. such as if u don't know what course u wanna do and wanna take an year off to find out exactly what you wanna do.. instead of picking any degree. it can also be good if u need it to prepare for UMAT OR if you're sick of studying and wanna take an year off and work.

saying all that the OP however should rethink taking a gap year cause those are pretty retarded reasons.

I would never do it because I doubt I would be able to study again after a gap year.

Not to say you couldn't, but personally I would just go straight to Uni and get it over and done with.

my comment was a generalization too you stupid fuck

1. how does deferring for one year help in helping you pick a degree, its not like within this gap year you'll be exposed to and gain experience in a range of professional environments that will help you make a more informed decision , you can attend career fairs and such without having to take a gap year. its a white person thing to do since asians would just do law/med/commerce/engo or whatever they make.

2. im quite unsure about med entry but the general consensus is that GAP years to prepare for the UMAT dont work, stupid reason

3. if you are sick of studying and want to take a year off to work... sounds like a dumb idea. the people that are "sick of studying" tend to be the underachievers who have no studied at all. if you are sick of studying, why not just go do an apprenticeship or just work, clearly tertiary education is not for you.

your reasons suck ass

1. deffering one year means you can TRAVEL, EXPLORE and being EXPOSED too soo much more of what is out there i.e. volunatary work at a hospital, go overseas. so YES, if you use a gap year to your advantage you can get a better idea of what you want to do. i'm not referring to career fairs and all - they are bullshit. you are clearly some stay at home nerdy faggot who lives behind his computer.

2. i personally have friends that have taken gap years and have increased umat from 40%ile to mid 90s after doing a prep course during a gap year so fuck you and your general consensus.

3. well if it sounds like a dumb idea to you then you don't do it dipshit. but dont go around making fucked up generalisations such as "gap years are for retards and white people" and "the people that are "sick of studying" tend to be the underachievers who have no studied at all". i know plenty of high 99ers who took gap years this year.

im taking a gap year myself for reasons 2 and 3. so ill see how umat goes, and i am pretty sure i dont fit the category of peopne who "have no studied at all". so there are exceptions to your generalisations, and the only reason im guessing you'd make such generalisations is you think you are some kind of elitist, who is "better" than someone who takes a gap year. so fuck you.

Please take your arguments to PM.

Even if you win, you're still retarded.
