Ok so I got 94.20 for my UAI and it just never occurred to me to put down Commmerce at UNSW as my first preference because I thought i wouldn't get in anyway. So i've picked Economics as first pref and received an offer...which is good.

What I've been considering is taking Eco for the first yr (i heard eco n comm have same subjects for 1st yr) and then try getting a transfer in yr 2 into Commerce.
The question is: Is there any point in changing my preferences now to try and get a late round offer into Comm? And I should definitely accept the Economics offer right now correct??

Sorry i am totally clueless and I don't even know what the cut off for Commerce is in 2005, I've just heard that the cutoffs have dropped signifcantly this year.
I mean in 2003 it was 95.50, 2004 was 96, I just didn't even think of bothering to choose it as first pref, is there any point to now?

Thanx for ur help, ppl

btw, BOS rocks man...ive had an account here for like a yr but it neva got activated lol...so i've only created a new one now...thanx BOS u got me into the Comm faculty at UNSW :)

Well the UNSW Commerce cutoff was 95.00 which meant u neva would of made it into UNSW anyway...

Also its almost impossible to get into UNSW in the late round because at the moment there are no vacancies and even if people pull out and they accept people in the late round... the uai usually goes up even more in the late round...

you may have a chance in USYD commerce though

Stay at UNSW - the Faculty here is the best in the Asia/Pacific, don't worry about cutoffs.

Anyway, change preferences anyway and see what happens.

It is fairly easy to transfer after 1st year to commerce if you've achieved a distinction average (with your UAI it should be almost guarenteed)

I'd say internal transfer is easier.
Also D average isn't that difficult in first year if you put in the yards.

Yeah it is harder through UAC depending on the circumstances.
For USyd, internal transfers can be facilitated independent of the UAC and USyd tends to look more favourably upon current USyd students than other students. But NewSouth dont have an internal transfer system so it all goes through UAC, which means that your potential competition also includes high school students.

I'm not sure how reliable my info is, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

You get no exemptions? Wrong. If you've studied all the core courses in the B Economics degree at UNSW they will not make you study them all again the following year when you transfer to B Commerce.

You will get full credit for your studies and can have the confidence that upon transferring to B Commerce you will have been taught the same as everyone else in the degree (unlike if you go switching universities).

Stick with UNSW. That one year of study in a B Eco will mean nothing after you transfer to B Commerce and have completed your degree there.

However internal transfer at University of New South Wales was overhauled last year. Now it is all handled via UAC. UAC sucks, so yeah, be careful.

Ok so it comes down to this...i wanna do Commerce...preferably at UNSW...
If I receive a Late Round Offer for Commerce at Usyd...should i take it or stick it out with Economics at UNSW for the 1st year?

And why did Eco drop by 3 whole points at unsw?

my friend says that first yr commerce core subject lecturers are pretty crap at usyd, but 2nd and 3rd yr are much better as they do become specialised.

uai's fall because of demand and supply.

if i were u, i'd stay at unsw. but it also depends on what majors you're considering.

do BEc at unsw. all ur subjects get credited for sure. plus familiar campus, friends, etc. anywayz, transferring seems easy for non-hsc students - just get a D average and ull be in.
