Should Indigenous Australians assimilate into mainstream society?
Say that at redfern station mate, please do.Indigenous Australian culture is toxic. I think that Indigenous Australians should integrate into mainstream society. Aboriginals should not be given special rights compared to the average Australian. The only Aboriginal I admire is Noel Pearson because he is a conservative. I think every Aboriginal has a right to celebrate Australia day and share in our Western heritage.

Sathius005 for News, Current Affairs & Politics section moderator...Indigenous Australian culture is toxic.
lol fuck off mateLet's ask white people. They'll tell us what to do.
this...kind of proves his point though?Say that at redfern station mate, please do.
Report back to us about how it goes
what do you propose thenalcohol abuse, getting in trouble with the law, unemployment, inhaling paint and petrol to mimic the effects of drugs, sexual abuse on levels where they have banned pornography in remote Australia, chronic welfare abuse and mortality rates that can be liken to a third world country...
western culture has done well for them... its their fault, lets make them assimilate by staging what I would liken to martial law in central Australia and we will just call it an intervention to be nice... on top of that we will treat them like shit... you're a product of your own environment... if you are perceived and treated like shit you will become that shit...
I'm not intending to be racist at all or anything... but clearly the blame is not only with the indigenous community but with the non indigenous community as well...
That's the point... there's not much you can do other than that...what do you propose then
these things are symptomatic of virtually any low socioeconomic demographic, not just Aboriginals. In which case the issue becomes one of how you can increase levels of opportunity, particularly educational, in these areasI dont really come into contact with aborignals that often, and so cant really make concrete judgement on what I think of them and their culture.
Though with those I have come into contact with, they seemed to have a rather strong inclination to cigarettes and drugs, and had no qualms in issuing expletives and curses to any passer who glanced at them for longer than one second. I once heard a mother say to her son after he almost tipped the baby in its carriage thing, "Watch it ya fuckin dumb cunt, I'll beat the shit out of you if you do that again motherfucker."
These are my observations.
or you can take the point that aboriginal culture was functioning before white settlement and post colonization our culture has essentially fucked their culture up the ass (tribal culture with no technological history introduced to concepts of law/order, drugs, money etc). now you act all upset that they haven't adapted to your ideal lifestyle, cry me a river.alcohol abuse, getting in trouble with the law, unemployment, inhaling paint and petrol to mimic the effects of drugs, sexual abuse on levels where they have banned pornography in remote Australia, chronic welfare abuse and mortality rates that can be liken to a third world country...

+1... The British thought the aboriginals needed "fixing" and "healing", in relation to their lifestyle and culture. They did not acknowledge them as proper human beings but rather more as animals.or you can take the point that aboriginal culture was functioning before white settlement and post colonization our culture has essentially fucked their culture up the ass (tribal culture with no technological history introduced to concepts of law/order, drugs, money etc). now you act all upset that they haven't adapted to your ideal lifestyle, cry me a river.
