hey guys, just wondering how many others there are out there doing this topic as their elective. Our class is and we are working on our event now, and it seems to be getting bigger and bigger.

I know one potential option is to plan an event but not actually DO it, is any body else out there doing that?

Our class is organising an event for Anzac Day, using our local river to re enact the landing of Gallipoli. It's going to be a MASSIVE event, (free BBQ and Anzac cookies if ur interested) and i've never heard of a HSC class going to such extremes. Is there anyone out there who can back me up?

I did Site specific last year and our piece just took place during a lunchtime at school. I've only known classes that study this topic to just stick within school grounds

That's what i assumed, but our teacher thinks that it would be a waste of time not to do something meaningful , give back to the community etc etc etc. Problem now is that this event takes up more of my time than the other 11 units put together (feels like it anyway).

we're doing site specific, although we're just going to perform ours at a shopping centre :)

Well i guess a shopping centre is a bit bigger than school grounds, but it still seems like my teacher has gone completely overboard. We've spent over a term on it, and its on the 24th of april, by then it will be almost two terms. And that's why we dont get class time for our IP's.

thats quite a long time to be spending on it; but it does sound like its going to be a fun event! we only started doing site specific about a month ago and were only planning to spend about 4 weeks on it (preparing the performance), before that we were doing ruby moon.

we spend about 2 periods a week on our IP's in class (which is about 80 minutes in total) and thats because some students are at tafe at that time.

Ideally, the performance thingo should only be an indicator or a little lesson on what goes on in a site specific performance - just an opportunity to apply the skills that the textbook or John Fox's pot filled mouth taught you to do.

But I guess its too late to back down from such a grand plan.

yeah way too late to back down. We have thousands of dollars in funding, nearly a hundred extra people involved. Its ridiculous. Wish we were studying what we were meant to be doing (Ruby Moon).

If our school had thousands of dollars in funding, we'd put it into air conditioning.

It sounds like you're replicating something from Cirque de Soliel.

My teacher and we plan to do the perf as well...but gosh i really don't want to do it at school...i rather embarass myself in some place where people don't know me...if only I could change her mind to taking the world first....

I actually suggested us to do a performance at the beach...My teacher was like that's a big crowd and all...and then yeah the usual at some place in a shopping centre...I don't know you probably need this permission thing from the council....

Though I really want to do it at parramatta...i saw alot of dragon dances at that place so I guess a lil site theatre wouldn't hurt...

so far we are gonna split into two grps...one doing 'The Metropolis' (I'm in this one) and the other one doing that tree spirit dude...i forgot...anyway gosh i wanna drop Drama

Wow.. there's alot of site specifc studiers here. last year, I thought we were cursed by being one of only a handful of schools studying it.

Wow, that's alot to go through. We only kinda started THINKING about it just recently. But I think it's a bit much to put on us. With our IPs and our PIPs and our GPs and just assignments here and assignments there. I think we're doing something for Multi-Cultural day. Maybe at school, maybe at the shopping center. It's kind of daunting...

We did one in our school, and our chosen audience was year 7s. We "collected" our audience from their class, with much clanging and shouting and skipping and fun, then escorted them down to the Year 7 Safety Area. We gave them gifts of ribbons, and then once they were seated comfortably, we launched our performance, which was about struggling to fit into school, and achieving your dreams.
We then broke up into groups, and played games, got to know the year 7s, played tip too, and then got the year 7s to write a wish on their ribbons, and then tie these ribbons onto the tree, wishing they'll come true.
My friend played her flute while they did this, and then some kids were dancing around the tree. Very cool. We then escorted the year 7s back to class.

My drama class did SSSET this year, we held two performances in school...
it was "Anti bullying week" so we decided to stick to that theme to keep it relevant to our audience (the rest of the school)
During recess held a procession through the school grounds, each of us bound to a chain that stretched about twenty metres or so, we ended up coming through the the main quad of our school and standing in a large circle, still attatched to the chain (which now that i think about it...was probably more like 30 or 40 metres long) and we sort of played a game of chinese whispers, except screaming at the top of our lungs over the kids in the playground (who luckily, shut up and payed attention) we decided that gossip was the most prevalent form of bullying in our school, so we started a rumour chain, which started with "hey, dont tell anyone, but i have a LITTLE crush on matt!" and by the time it got to the end of the circle it was something like "hey, i heard that you and matt are having babies, and your babies scabies have rabies?" (or something to that effect" and they we got all symbolic and broke the chain blah blah blah (breaking the chain of rumours..whatevs)
then we did a second performance at lunch time, which was the most fun thing ever. our class of about 12 students broke up in to groups, there were the 'big bullies', who were 2 guys and 1 girl from our class dressed as gangster sort of looking guys, 'mean girls' which were 2 girls and myself, who were the nasty slutty girls, the "snobby boys", 2 boys..who didnt really do much actually..and a nasty dyke who bullied little girls..and the rest of our class played the "sherrifs", we took photos in our costumes and created "wanted" posters, which were all over school at the beginning of lunch, and the sherriffs were out encouraging kids to go find bullies, about ten minutes later the bullies left the drama room and went to different positions around the school and bullied kids, we yelled at them and called them names...alot of them fought back pretty fiercley, then they figured out what to do and groups of kids "dragged" the bullies over to the sherrifs..we all got 'lined up' againt a wall, where the kids who found us were able to throw huge soapy wet sponges at us, which then fell on the ground and got covered in dirt..and then thrown at us again..and the kids who found us were given bags of chocolate coins..the sherrifs decided to just throw buckets of dirty water at us...at the end of the day no real lesson was learnt and out class only got 3 out of five and we were left very muddy and soaking wet with makeup running all over out faces and alot of dirt stuck in our dirty wet hair...but it was the most fun ever.

so thats probably not helpful, but i thought i would share it anyway.

we just did our perfomance the last day before holidays and did it in our lunch quad.. we only had 4 weeks during class which is like 16 hours and my group was crap and didn't really participate... we essentially organised our whole thing in 2 hours and we ended up with 77 %...
but man your gonig overboard lol
