I don't think you are kidding yourself.

On the scale of things in life, (things way bigger than the HSC), should you expect to drop everything in life when big things come along? Will you have the same mentality at uni? Is sacrificing sleep/good food/exercise at any point in life a wise choice, from academic drive to having to care for sick relatives to any big other stressful time in your life.

You may as well try to learn to balance now, it may come in useful in uni and may come in essential when you enter the big wide world out there. I can absolutely guarantee I know many people who did the exceptionally well who did so much in HSC year. I know 99.5+ers that went overseas for a few weeks of yr 12. I know people who received 95+ with extreme pressures of caring for sick relatives, working massive hours at a job out of necessity, health issues etc.

In yr12(and basically any other life stage), there is the possibility for people to manage, at varying levels;
Sleep, food, exercise, good results, social life, family responsibility and other extracurricular activities. You just have to prioritise. I couldn't keep up a 20 hr dance load once I hit the HSC, also coupled with going overseas in yr 12 and family responsibility. So I scaled back my dancing a bit, but I didn't completely cut things out of my life. Everything in moderation.
Yes exactly - I didn't say cut things out, I said you're probably going to have to reduce the time you spend on things like seeing friends, which I think is perfectly reasonable.

I did that stupid no sleep routine in year 11 and it sucks.
If you study smart in an efficient manner you do not need any thing more than around 7 hours per day. 4 hours to do notes/revise content and 3 hours to do past HSC questions (which includes learning exam tech, criteria and etc).

7 hours is a bit excessive imo

Regardless of the time of day when you study, 7 hours is excessive.
What I am saying is that there is no need to not sleep well because if the student studies efficiently and effectively they can easily study 7-8 hours per day (which is excessive) and still have more than enough sleep.

If you get home at 3:30 and start studying at 4-5pm your can easily do 7 hours of study and still get about 8-9 hours of study.
dat social life. You still need time to relax and socialise apart from sleeping, unless you're some type of robot.

Lol fatboi. I got an ATAR of 98.35, I didn't want to do anything else but commerce (I also got 5 bonus points, but I didn't need them --> 103.35).
dats rly a cool story n tell me more

anyway

idk about every degree but you will usually cover more in one course than you do in one HSC sub...and that's over 13 weeks of class

so if you are having problems balancing your life right now, it isn't going to get easier

so goodluck with that hey.

I think the real problem is people who aren't generally that "great" at stuff over-exerting themselves to try and make up for it. It's ok to realise that not everyone can shoot for the stars yo

but there's plenty of room on earth

Only if you don't participate in sport. Sport takes 2 hours out of my afternoon every day.

Mm. yeah it really depends on the type of person. I myself can survive on minimal sleep, like today I went out for the whole day on 3.5 hours sleep.

However, if I really do want a good rest and sleep in, I sleep for 11-12 hours. Oh how I love post-hsc life.

Looking back, the people who had minimal social life during the HSC have minimal social life now IMO. Unless you suffer from anti-socialism or something like that, being social is a choice you make. I know people who may have done well in the HSC but have a basically non-existent social life, which is kind of sad, since what they think is success really is not in the big world.

These threads keep popping up.. It is very realistic to have all 3 and even be sport involved and have a hobby. Work smart not hard.

Don't kill yourself over HSC... about a month after finishing it you'll realise it's nowhere near as important as you think!
Balance is everything and if you believe that sleep is optional you MAY get incredible marks but it's gonna mess you up in so many other parts of your life that are more important than one or two extra atar points.

Don't be stupid. You NEED sleep, particularly during year 12. Don't kid yourself.
