Hi guys,

Got a bit of a nooby question lol. I'm just wondering how the marking system at MQ works exactly. I keep hearing conflicting explanations and was wondering if someone can set the record straight. Does anyone know how marks are scaled? Atm I'm doing one subject which I've got an exam for this week (ACCG101) and according to my raw marks I'll need 75% to scrape a credit which at this rate I don't think I'll get. Will scaling make that much of a difference generally?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

No one knows how exactly marks are scaled, the raw marks may or may not be reflective of the final mark. There can be a fair bit of 'massaging' to get things in order.

The best advice anyone can give you is to just concentrate on doing well.

That would explain a lot.

Awesome advice, thanks very much.

Yeh it's a little bit of a mystery but I have been told they basically aim for a certain % to get each grade and therefore people are scaled up to reflect that. I have heard it is also based on the marks of previous years and the performance of all students in the year as a collective. In general work towards doing what you need to get the credit as a raw mark - you are never scaled down only ever up so if you meet the credit grade as a raw mark you will also meet it with your SNG

There is no hard fast rule, you can get scaled up/down depending on a few factors.

Is there any difference between SNG and WAM?

SNG = your grades in a unit
WAM = overall grades for your course

IIRC
