Never solely blame the tool, blame the users. Social media is an incredible invention that allows the entire world to connect with each other, that we decided as a whole to abuse, both users and companies alike.
Thats all wrong because the intended results of such a distinctive creation is evident. Literally think of what going to infer from something like that - none its all just posed on false implications of pseudo realities. 😡

social media is good, what isn't is the endless content hell, i wouldn't be able to talk to people as much without it. apparently instant messaging will be allowed, which is a good decision imo

100% i get that snapchat and tiktok need to be banned for <16 (so many creeps). it kinda sucks that insta got banned bc that's the main communication platform for a lot of people in this generation (outside of real life obv), but everyone will just shift to other communication platforms anyway lol (the return of kik)

but if we're going to ban social media, then what about youtube kids, which is like brainrot for 2 year olds, if we care so much about children's health

Bit scared to see the high amount of support for the ban in this thread - some kids have made a positive living on social media

As many people have said on here, social media's only really good for communicating with friends (but even then I'd prefer to see them in person). Doom scrolling on Instragram, Facebook etc has screwed up a lot of people's eye health, and the time wasted scrolling amounts to precious time they'll never get back. So I think the ban is a good thing.

I don’t think the government should be determining what people do on the internet, it won’t be very effective at stopping young people from using social media but it will almost undoubtedly lead to terrible data breaches of ID and pave the way for huge privacy overreaches and the restriction of people other than children on the internet.

The positive/negative impacts of social media on children are entirely different questions, but I think that should be up to parents to weigh up, not the government. This policy is some China level stuff, we’d mock them for something like this

The social media ban is only being implemented for one thing: the government wants people to think it’s doing something.

with inflation, house prices, homelessness increasing rapidly, wages decreasing or not being able to provide a good life due to medicare, taxes, fees, bills etc. the government decided on the ban so it shows its people it’s doing something

the government can control what happens to its people, can control the economy, change the amount of taxes a group pays, but it doesn’t want to not because it isn’t capable of it

so is the social media ban bad? Depends on how one views it, for me it all seems like a mockery game: gov creates a problem, trys to resolve it, yay it looks like a hero

but is social media to begin with safe? No but the government shouldn’t interfere to THAT extent

(im 16 so im not affected by the ban)
