hi,
what r u guys doing to study?
do u have past papers etc to study from
i only have the 2007 paper and my trial to practise, as we have a new syllabus blah blah etc etc
so what r u doin to study?
where casn we practise mcq? im getttin sick of doin the same ones over and over
also where can i get more trials/practice papers from?? i cant find any new ones in the resources section..

what do u guys think will be the religion& peace question this year?

try the board of studies website for Multiple choice as well as downloading the standard packages.

theres nothing really available (As it is a new syllabus bah blah blah) so I wouldnt worry too much about it if you cant get your hand on papers (there are only about 6 or 7 floating around anyway...and no, I wont hand them over as most of them were purchased papers)

Focus on your notes and knowing the syllabus and you will be fine


As for the advice above, just be aware that they are old course and you will need to use the syllabus for the M/C....the standards packages (2001/2002) are quite useless short of using them (again with the syllabus) to construct notes from as the exam structure and standard has changed dramatically

what im finding best is just taking all the relevant dot points (particularly from the 'students learn to' cloumn) and constructing exam questions based on it (coz really, they are very limited in what they can ask).

e.g. Evaluate the impact of Christian ethical teachings on Bioethics on the lives of adherents (referring to at least two denominations in your answer).

I bought excel one today and I think it is pretty good. But I am not sure the contents are any relevant at all.

The course has only been tested once, 2008 is the second year the new syllabus has been tested so first make sure you have an up to date excel book as some books shops still sell the ones for the old course. They probably are slightly useful for supplementing the work you are doing, but the best information will be what you get from your teacher. We get a work booklet and resources booklet related to each topic (all the sor textbooks are meant to be completely shit) as well as mind maps and past essays written by past students and the teacher himself which he gets other teachers to mark before giving to us, but we also have to do a variety of essays responding to a variety of verbs for many topics which he marks and we can then improve on through his comments and comparison to other essays, and that in truth is the best way to study. Excel books get pretty poor in most subjects, such as the biology excel book answering some dot points incorrectly or like most of the science ones ive found too briefly or not at all. Basically only use it to supplement your work and im assuming its got essays in it, i wouldnt trust them, it might be alright to get the structure from, or maybe a quote or something but yer the best thing is what yo uare taught at school.

Im studying for the hsc (and have studied like this thought year 11 and 12 for religion) by reading over past essays and breaking it down into specific paragraphs where I adress a specific point as in religion you will basically always cover the same context and ideas regradless of the verb, all the verb in the question does is alters the linking words and depth of the information you cover. From this im summarising all the information related to this point and adding quotes examples and such. Which I learn and read over the many essays ive done.

Oh and finally one thing my teacher said you always need to look for in your essays
1. Adress the verb
2. examples both specific to the time and current
3. Scripture reference/ quotes
4. Variants (some topics wont have it but if you are doing something on juadism or christainty you will always be able to talk about how the different denominations views on the particular topic)
5. something else.... lol

EDIT: Its all about finding your own method though, this is what works for me and many people at school but you might find other ways better such as recording an essays into an mp3 and listening to it on your ipod, flow charts etc

The new excel (released about a month or two ago) has an orange cover (am working from memory) and is quite thick. Has a tear out summary section in the back.

One of the best books out there atm in my opinion (along with the new cambridge book)

Same content as history, beliefs etc dont change but the structure is radically different..

You can use the old texts with a new syllabus as the new depth studies are just combinations of the old depth studies but the major differences are at 2 unit level with peace and non-religion

yer ive seen that in borders.. is quite good.. but too late to buy it now
i use "living religion" 3rd ed, and an SOR textbook by Thompson--Socail Science Press.. do you know if they are any good? and i also have handouts from the cambidge book..

do you mean the key terms such as describe, explain, analyse etc etc? :S

verb is something you do. So things like describe, explain, analyse are the verbs. I think there is a "Glossary of Key Terms" where they are listed. My teachers have said for us to remember them all

Its most likely going to be two religions, we were told they can ask you on only one but its highly unlikely. I feel itll be a high order verb ie analyse as they will not give you an easy low order verb for the 20 marker, even though they can i think theyll feel that it wouldnt be a fair "discriminator". I hope it doesnt specific ask for inner or outer peace. I hope for one like Anaylse the importance of the sacred texts of two religions in guiding individiuals to an understand of peace. Oh and i hope it doesnt say communities
