You pretty much need a master's now to get a consultant job (most hired consultants now only work part time). It's not super hard getting into the program right now compared to the more competitive specialities but will probably get worse soon. You need to publish and kiss ass. There will always be interviews and tests in every specialty.

Why is it so hard to get into? Because everyone wants to do it?

By hard I mean it's not a walk in after med school. Compared to other jobs it is probably easy. Given the competition with other exceptional individuals and the 1k+ doctors graduating per year. There isn't enough spots for jobs. Therefore, it is hard.

i've heard that marks throughout uni won't matter what so ever. Not sure how true it is tho.

marks can lead to honours and if you do honours it can give you more avenues for research and getting papers published

googling something like 'medical specialisations' or 'emergency medicine' or 'emergency medicine + australia' as well as the medical degrees of various unis would answer most of the OPs questions. Sure you get some junk but you get junk on here too. The aim of using a good search limits junk.

ED training is not hard to enter, but is harder to complete. You should look up the ACEM website for prerequisites and training.
