If I get too tired in a hospital atmosphere I'd go for general practice. It's so cushy, just see patients every day, go to seminars, get freebies from every drug company and their horse...

Psychiatry is looking less appealing by the week...but it still seems the best fit for me.

Anyway, best to keep an open mind until about 4th year.

here is a comprehensive list of what you may choose to specialise in once you graduate from med school...i used to think that all doctors are GPs lol

you might consider OB/GY. Currently there's a workforce shortage and great pay!

anyways enjoy!!

My tutor outsources a company to do research into one's life income levels and compares them across industries and occupations. Suprisingly, the research indicated that a normal GP will earn more than a specialised doctor because of the fact that specialisations require time and effort to master. ie. your're effectively a noOb, so your income levels never match a normal GP in a lifetime. I find that kinda funny. :p

i find it amusing that theres all these 15 yr old boys out there that think being a gyno would be the most awesome job, do they not realise most women only visit gynos when they have problems with their bits?

thats BS...a GP could earn, say 100-200K a year after tax and insurance (one of the lowest insurance premiums of all specialties, also the lowest salary) after 4-5 years in college. A OBGY which is one of the highest paying would earn up to 500K after tax and insurance and 6-7 years in college. you do the maths

LoLz, another mathamatical problem. :p

I have no idea, that is why I referred to my tutor's research. You can call him up if you PM me. :p

I didn't think it was possible too, that is also why I referred to it. :)

But what you have said kinda scares me. $500K after tax? That's a dangerously high amount to give to any specialised doctor. :p

But did you take into account the premiums for a OBGY?

Lawyers can't get that type of money in Australia, not many anyway. :(

*cries* :(

haha well you seem to have a desire to be loved, which is perfectly acceptble! Most patients prefer to visit a female Gyno...the same way as most guys prefer to visit male urologists (though I've never figured out why there are more female urologists). In fact for other "non-intimate" consultations a female physician is preferred because women are perceived by the wider community to empathise more readily and more willing to discuss the patients concerns.

i think females are better for internal med.. cos.. if i saw a male urologist and something happens during the physical.. then im pretti worried for myself.. lots of questions..

OBGY hav one of the highest premiums tho..
not enuf females in this profession

personally i realli want to do surgery cos its lik a sport and skillful.. many hours of training for the 'big game'...

by Kimmeh :females know how to symphathise more
females may sympathise more but health professionals empathise.. ive learnt that it can be the cause of quite a few dropouts and mental breakdown in med cos we start seeing patients in 1st yr...
