hello i am so scared for hsc because even though i feel pretty confident in my subjs, i am super unsure of how the scaling will ultimately affect my atar. i am aiming for a 99.5+ and i was wondering if people could give insights into what marks they got relative to their atar or give me a prediction based on my ranks...

these are in order of subj | rank | how many people got a b6 last year (for context, my school is top 5)

Your current performance is of a very high standard and it seems consistent with an ATAR up to 99.7, meaning that your ATAR goal of 99.5+ is definitely within reach. I agree with the above posts, which emphasise the importance of performing at the same standard in all of your HSC exams. Your HSC exams contribute the remaining 50% of your overall HSC marks across your subjects. You should therefore ensure that you apply your highly effective study strategy as you continue to prepare for your HSC exams, allowing you to maintain this level of performance, ultimately maximising your chances of achieving your ATAR goal.

My school is ranked 200+

My goal is to get a 99.5 atar. Would this be possible? Im hoping that my cafs and English rank carry me… hopefully i get a cafs state rank so that will contribute a lot to my atar

I lowkey don't know if you're trolling but if your school doesn't get a lot of b6 for maths eng pdhpe food tech and bio it seems like you're looking at max a mid 80 to low 90 atar rn

still, to get a 99.5 you'll need band 6s across all your subjects, realistically you're towards the bottom end of your cohort in bio, food tech and maths and it's unlikely you'll get a mid-90 overall mark for these three so unless you get 97+ externally in your subjects a 99 atar is virtually impossible how many b6s did you school get for each subject last year?

I was being nice to, realistically this is like low 70s ngl, even with some decent rankings they are in the bottom percentile for everything so idk if they gonna reach 80 so this has to be a troll

bro same I said 80s to 90s but being ranked that low is realistically a band 4 for bio pdh math and food tech an 80 is untouchable unless they insanely clutch externals

Unfortunately, these ranks at a school ranked 200+ are not consistent with an ATAR of 99.5+. An ATAR of 99.5+ is very high, and at schools ranked in the 200+ range, maximising your chances of such a high ATAR from an internal perspective would require optimal ranks, that is, placing at least among the top 5, preferably top 3 and ideally first within your cohort across each of your subjects. You were able to achieve this in Community and Family Studies, but you would need to mirror this standard of performance across your subjects for your overall performance to be consistent with a 99.5+ ATAR.

On a different note, I came across another thread of yours. If your main goal is to study law at university, but you fear that you may not achieve a sufficiently high ATAR, a potential approach that you can consider against those that others suggested (all of which are still valid) is to study law at another university, where the ATAR requirement is lower or where you can receive an offer through a non-ATAR pathway. For example, the ATAR requirement for ACU's Bachelor of Laws is 75. You can also receive an offer for WSU's Bachelor of Laws (whether as a single degree or double degree), which requires an LSR of 90, by having adjustment factors applied to your selection rank, or through its HSC True Reward Early Offer Program. This will allow you to subsequently transfer to a more established law school such as that of USyd and UNSW, while retaining the ability to study law if you fail to transfer.

no, not even if you 100 all of your externals. it is impossible. you're looking at 75ish from your internals. 80s is doable if you work harder

HSC exam marks of 90+ across your subjects would certainly increase your chances of achieving an ATAR of 90 significantly. If your cohort also performs favourably in the HSC exams, this will likely have positive consequences in terms of your Assessment Marks, which also helps improve your chances of achieving your ATAR goal.
