I go as a local to Newtown P.A at the moment and i applied for St George Girls for next year (Yr11) and got in =D

However, I cant really make up my mind whether or not to stay or leave and was wondering if any past or current students or anyone could give me advice to help me make my decision before the end of term?

Thankyou!

She may not be just looking at rank. Atmosphere, subjects, extra-curricular, things like that.
ye but the massive difference in ranks would surely imply a considerable difference in environment as well.

If you are considering otherwise, why did you even apply in the first place?

Sometimes its nice to have the option. Many people get into selective schools and don't end up going.

OP: It really depends on what your focus is. NHSPA is the way to go if you have any interest in Creative Arts.

Congratulations! It's a really competitive enironment at St. George but if you do't get the subjects you like, the school isn't going to change anthing for the better. Teachers are really helpful if you ask them a lot the maths faculty are really nice :) Also, be prepared to study!

It might be hard fitting in at first but just beyourself and all.

the thing is, St George sent me the subject selection sheet along with my letter of acceptance and after filling it in, i figured i had 14 units! i was MORTIFIED cos at newtown i have 12 units. This was because on the St George sheet, it said that i had to pick one subject from each line, and there were subjects that i wanted to do on all except for line eight or something where it was a choice between pe, geo or i.t and i didnt want to do any of them. So i had to pick geo which totalled all my subjects up to 14 units..

does anyone know if i can drop geo and not pick up any subjects on that line?

subj St George: Ext Maths & Eng, Chem, Bio, Food, Geo
subj Newtown: Ext Maths & Eng, Chem, Bio, Eco, (here, i wanted to do food tech but it clashed with ext eng, and the only way i can do food tech is if i do phys which i dont think i am capable with- plus i dont even know what eco is... lol)

plus im scared that its gonna be really weird with an entire girl school and having absolutely NO contact with guys... and they would be REALLY strict on uniform? cos at newtown we basically get away with anything.

WEll usually in the geo line there is supposed to be sport, but people wanted to do those subjects, so they were put there. I don't know if it's compulsory for you to pick it, but it's supposed to be time for sport :| but on that line, yeah you have to pick something ): it's sad because i have to do 2 units offline yuck

well we do have ocntact with guys i guess. There's Kogarah maris and james cook nearby and we have sydney tech as our brother school and we SOMETIMES organise to hve events with them e.g. school dances. Yes, really strict on uniform i'm afraid. Three times out of uniform, letter goes home. But that doesn't usually apply as harshly on seniors i guess you can still wear makeup and all but you have to look.... civil? yeah.

There are some decent guys around the area, as one of the above posters had stated. I dont think I would be in that catagory :(, but i do go to a school nearby.

But there are some hotties at St George, SOME.

I actually got in Sydney Tech last year, but didnt end up going, just cause i thought my teachers at my current school were far superior, and could shower me with far more attention, than if I went to Syd Tech.

However situations would depend, and ultimately it would be your choice.

Also with the boys part, there are a lot of girls at St. George that have a million guy friends so i don't think that would really be a problem?? Also there's the train for source of male population as well. St. Georgians don't acually study all that hardcore all the ime, we slack off easily (well year 10 right now that is).

There are SOME really hot techies.

Apparantly, it'e because some people on the train complain to our principal and our school is supposed to hve this awesome reputation! also principal has a HUGE EGO. We seem smart but you have no idea what goes on seriously, sometimes it's like a massive bitchfest D:

The only hot guy i've seen so far yet from kogarah to the city are from private schools, and it's hard to approach them because they have their own cliques and all and makes it verrrry awkward.

Haha there are people out there who would sink to bribery to get into such a great school. My advice is to take the offer hands down, but ultimately it's your decision to make. If you refuse the offer, will you be left thinking about "what might have been"? I can guarantee that that feeling of regret will eat at you for some time.

On a happier note, you won't see me there if you come next year lol. Imma kiss goodbye to St George Girls on Nov. 4

Lol how stereotypical. Believe me when I say that we're just like any other school. We all go out and party and have fun, like any other teenager. My facebook is proof of that. The teachers are just like any other state government school in my opinion. Some are very lousy, some are very good. However, I do believe that the difference lies in the atmosphere. It's going to be extremely competitive, and you'll find that just one mark's difference in an exam could mean a 20 rank difference. You might suddenly find that instead of being at the top of your cohort, you're hovering around average. That doesn't mean that you've suddenly become dumber, just that you're being compared with a more intelligent cohort than your previous school. I believe that this will allow you to see weaknesses that you previously hadn't noticed, or hadn't bothered to deal with, because you believed that you had already reached the top. In effect, the school will allow you to develop further than you previously felt was possible.

Not sure if that makes any sense to you now, but I'm sure it will in a year's time. You'll all be fine =]

Edit:
There are SOME really hot techies.
Haha really now?
