How is state rank determined? Is it students who did well in the whole exam + External Exams or Just exams?
handwriting (as a former state ranker)A bit irrelevant but does anyone know how tiebreaker works in determining state ranks? Like many people can get 100 in maths but not all of them come 1st.
only the internal rank affects state rank. If two people from the same school tie on the HSC exam but one is ahead of the other internally, then the one that is ahead should be getting a higher SRThey should really base state ranks on only externals imo. The final exam is the fairest representation of you as a student. Plus, everyone sits the exact same exam.
what if person 1 is ranked internally higher than person 2 but gets lower in the hsc exam than person 2, what happens then? does person 1 still get a higher state rankonly the internal rank affects state rank. I think you missed my point. And yes I do understand that if they based sr on only the HSC then it would be fair to assume a lot of people will be getting those equal high marks which would create a dilemma on who should receive sr.only the internal rank affects state rank. person 2 may not be getting a state rank but i think is more likely to receive one (but it is possible especially in higher ranked schools - i have heard of 2nds internally getting an SR)what if person 1 is ranked internally higher than person 2 but gets lower in the hsc exam than person 2, what happens then? does person 1 still get a higher state rank
not too sure how it works, but iirc generally a higher external mark is favourable.what if person 1 is ranked internally higher than person 2 but gets lower in the hsc exam than person 2, what happens then? does person 1 still get a higher state rank
I hope this helps!A user said:I believe the student who comes first in the state for a particular subject receives a call from the Premier informing them of this outcome a week prior to the release of HSC results. The remaining students who have also achieved a state rank are informed of this outcome on the day HSC results are released, although they do not receive calls. This will be concurrent with the release of the HSC Honour Roll in the case of HSCninja and the HSC Top Achievers in Course in the case of NESA.
Sorry, I thought that by "HSC results page" you were referring to the HSC Top Achievers in Course list.A user said:Makes sense!
Does it appear on the results page though? (i.e. would it say HSC MARK 100 for 3U, 3rd in State)
no you dont. my friend who got a sr found out only once he checked that page with all the top achievers on nesaA user said:I meant the page on studentsonline or the text message that we will receive from NESA - apologies, wording was dodgy
no its not dependent on internal mark, as i presume OPs friend is rank 1 internally meaning they will get their external mark for their internals, given they come first externally aswell. If I'm not wrong, I believe a state rank is also based on a student's assessment mark, so they would have to be very confident on a 100 assessment mark.
it does not matter what mark they got internally given that they came first internally.no its not dependent on internal mark, as i presume OPs friend is rank 1 internally meaning they will get their external mark for their internals, given they come first externally aswell.
