What mass of solute is needed to prepare 400 ml of 0.850M CuSO4 from CuSO4·5h2O?
I don't really understand the wording in this question.
Would someone explain the working for me?

since it's a calculation question, and i am sure your teacher would have gone through the basics with you, i'd just leave a guide to solve question:

400mL 0.850M of CuSO4, how many moles of CuSO4 wuold you need?!

knowing how many moles of CuSO4, how many moles of CuSO4.5H2O do you need to get this many moles of CuSO4

knowing how many moles of CuSO4.5H2O, how many grams of CuSO4.5H2O do you need?!

Ok, the middle step is what essentially is confusing. Would it be the same number of moles of CuSO4.5H2O as you have CuSO4? ... =S
