Omg u guys need to chill. I do all my homework, ace my assessments, work on my major works and study on the side but i do not spend more then 10 hours a week on school. I enjoy my subjects enjoy learning, so everything is easy and breezy. You only make it hard for yourself.

yeh i agree totally sweets.
i dont think its necessary to study so much at this early stage. obviously revising and stuff. but leave all the heavy hours till later on.
i do pretty hard subjects, and ive managed to get above 95% in all my assesments bar one, and thats without any real study except night before cramming.

A friend of mine is in year 11 this year (moving onto year 12) and she spends so much time studying, it's a worry.

She wakes up at 6am to study and this goes on until 8am, then she goes to school. As soon as she gets home, she has a snack and a shower and at 4pm, she begins studying until 10.

Not sure about weekends, but I know she does lots of school work then too. If I had to do that I'd kill myself.
wow ..

i wish i had a friend like that

Basically in first term of HSC (term before christmas holidays) I was doing basically no study, only just homework which would take up about 1 hour a night. As term 2 starteed to come to an end i started taking it a little more seriously and started to do about 2-3 hours a night but not regularly. By the time term 3 came I was regularly ddoing 3 hours a night, main focus was on maths though and rarely ever touched any English. During holidays, especially before trials and HSC i was putting in about 7-8 hours of study a day. Although it seems long, it really wasnt especially because the HSC was approaching and i was really studying quickly because i was afraid i wouldnt fit everything in before the hsc.

The correct answer to this question is AS MUCH AS YOU NEED TO. There's no point 'studying' 20 hrs a week if its not productive.

I also like to plan my study around task-completation rather than on the basis of time. I.e rather than saying 'I'm going to study 4 hrs tonight' I say 'I'm going to get x, y and z completed tonight.' This way, in my opinion, is a lot more gratifying than studying aimlessly. Placing time restrictions can also be very limiting and unproductive, because some tasks may take longer or shorter than you've anticipated.

As sikhman said, you don't really need to count how much your doing. Try and do as much as you can if your confident that you will do really well in topic tests, half yearlies etc. to your own expectations of what a good mark is. But 2 hours a day for year 11's "consistently" will do, properly, not procrastinating e.g. sending a text message, msn.

i do about 1.5 hours a night so thats around 10 hours a week, however i also fit 16 hours of gymnastics and 10+ hours of work a week so i doubt i could do anymore study. I dont think i would have enough schol work to do 25+ hours a week of study, i dont think i could find enough content in the courses to revise that much

According to my friend's tutor, a Year 12 student who wants to achieve their fullest potential should study (not incl. H/W of course) at LEAST 4 hours a day. How do people find time for winding down, tutor and hobbies?
