Hey whats the best way to study for the hsc maths exam?

i was thinking of doing all the past papers from 1989 but i'm getting a lot wrong like 70%
do i need to revise my textbook before doing the hsc papers
or do i work out the hard questions (eg question 10,9) and like understand them and just move on with the papers
i've repeated the 1993 paper like 2 times now..i don't if this is a good idea

Just do past papers.

Circle any that you got wrong/you had to look at the answers because you couldn't work it out. Then do more past papers and just come back and redo the circled questions and repeat the cycle until you understand everything

Maths takes time, practice and repetition. Just keep rolling.

Don't just blindly go through papers. If you're constantly getting certain types of questions wrong work on that. Also instead of regurgitating formulae try and understand what you're doing.

shud be at the past paper stage. just keep doing them. unless you're epic failing them, i.e. dont know the basics then shud hit the textbooks again(if you're already done so b4). if you're just getting owned on the last questions dont worry, keep doing past papers.

If your getting Q wrong before Q7-Q8 in a past paper, then (imo) that would suggest lack of understanding of the topic being tested or the type of Q, i would go back and go over the exercise or topic. Q9 and Q10, you can learn how to tackle them just by doing past papers and having a good undertstanding of the theory ( e.g. minima & maxima, velocity vs time graph ( reading off them) etc)

I find the Last two questions in 2U to be very interesting. The often combine a number of skills and they usually include:

Max/min, trigonometry/pythagorases theorum, a proof in a difficult differentiation and a lot of subbing in and morphing of equations

It is really about thinking around the question and breaking it up piece by piece. If you get an idea, test it, it's wrong? then I suggest you continue on with other questions and come back when you have a fresh mind

Bahaha, that trials question was so dodgy. I reckon they should've had a picture >.>

Past papers are the way to go. Once you've finished all the past HSC papers, move on to the School ones i.e. from Cherrybrook tech, James Ruse, etc.

If you're not sure why you're getting the answers wrong, be sure to read step by step why and where you went wrong. Chances are its a single mistake thats gotten your final answer wrong.

Only if you're completely hazy on a math topic should you only go back and consult relevant textbooks such as Accelerated Maths Learning (9-10) or Cambridge (for years 11-12). Otherwise don't waste time, you're like 2 months away from HSC literally.
