Is it possible to study a double degree with a minor for fun? Also is a minor degree only 1 year?

Not really

A minor can be as long as you want it to be, depends on how fast you complete the subjects

Why are you doing three majors?

Minors are five or so subjects - do them whenever you want

nah just curious

ok say if I did engineering in uni (chemical engineering) and did a double major such as BEngo/BScience (maths) and wanted to do an extra "minor" say like Arts then how does it work

You'll have to see if you're allowed to take an Arts minor as part of those degrees - in that case, I don't think so

what are some circumstances prohibiting you to do so in this case

For instance, in my Advanced Maths degree, I am not allowed to do a minor at all for that degree

For Arts combined with maths, I can't take Finance as a minor, but I am allowed to take Economics as a minor

It's all in the course rules and the course handbook

Your degree will have rules regarding what majors/minors you can complete. In Eng/Sci, you can complete 1 major for Eng, 1 major for Science (possibly 2 if they are maths related) and 1 minor in Science: http://www.handbook.unsw.edu.au/undergraduate/programs/2017/3767.html . There are rules as to what minors you can complete - the minors for Science are listed here: http://www.handbook.unsw.edu.au/undergraduate/programs/2017/3970.html

You cannot do a minor in Arts if you decide to do an Eng/Sci degree.

Is there any benefit of doing a minor i.e. finance with cs at unsw or will be just a waste of time due to how little content is taught?

don't want to derail too much but there are jobs out there. not all are for mechatronics specifically but you will end up in mechanical, software etc or something like that.
