Studying a language for first time (1 Viewer)

So heres a situation. I had a slightly disappointing second semester. Next semester Ill be looking to use some of my elective units. Im hoping these can be WAM boosters but Ive always wanted to learn a language, most likely Spanish. So how hard is it to learn a language at uni, especially with the situation Im in? Id do SPAN1621 so if theres anything specific to this that would really help

Languages require a lot of work, and especially at introductory level, they will move really fast to keep you up to speed. If you can deal with that than great, but a lot of the time it can get a bit overwhelming.

I definitely wouldn't recommend languages as an elective, unless you intend to progress through to senior units and obtain semi or full fluency, which would be difficult considering the structure of most degrees. There will always be time later on to learn a language if you so desire, or you could pick up a Diploma of Languages later in your degree if you feel like the workload is manageable (this is an option I'm considering too).

I'd never do a language as a WAM booster. Firstly, you'll lack the intrinsic motivation needed for languages. Secondly, languages are incredibly hard unless you have a flair for them. Thirdly, even the most basic language/starting level moves really fast in uni. Like they'd cover in a semester like two yrs of snr HS in a language practically.
