Hello,

Just to preface, the subjects I do are:
- Standard Maths (good so far)
- Advanced English (it's okay)
- Bio (HELP!)
- Business (it's okay)
- SOR II (HELP!)

I've asked a few people about this but I want to gather other people's opinions on the best study method for each subject, especially the ones I've mentioned as okay or I need help with. So far, what I've gathered from people is to do HSC Questions on the topic and focus on questions rather than placing more emphasis on memorising notes, which I understand and need to implement. I've seen studying techniques too such as Pomodoro, Fenymann, Spaced repetition, Active Recall, etc. but I'm not sure which ones are effective. Currently, I've been using YPT, the studying app to stay on track with my work and see how long I'm spending on each subject and reflect on how effective it really is, which keeps me on task and motivated to do effective studying, rather than sitting with my notes or the textbook for long.

Any help is appreciated!

studying is a pretty personal process, not everyone does it the same. for example if i do pomadoro, i just feel lazy lol, like i have to sit down for at least 45mins-1hr to be or feel productive really. just see what feels right to you, and where your balance needs to be, maybe reflect on your past assessments and where your issues were - eg if in your maths test you only managed to do the basic questions but were completly stumped otherwise, it might be a good idea to do some exam papers to widen the range of questions that you have been exposed to, rather than staying within the bounds of the textbook.

i would say that in general, notes are only useful to an extent, as you are neglecting exam technique by not doing any practice questions to actually apply your ideas to questions. however on the flipside if you just do exam papers, you might miss some subtlety in the content, so writing notes (or at least having a textbook reference) and memorising the majority of the content is equally as important (though i will say for maths, since the content is not as heavy the formula sheet is usually sufficient, and from there it's better to just do practice questions to apply your knowledge). especially in subjects like bio, there is probably as much content as the applications that the exam wants from you, so make sure you thoroughly know the content before you jump into doing past exams.

if ypt is helping you then keep using it, same with any other technique that lets you stay on task and be motivated. try and make things a routine if that helps, then even if you feel lazy you still have to do an hour of study for example (but don't push yourself too much, burnout is worse than skipping one day of study). also, active recall isn't so much a technique as it is a psychological fact, you should be constantly revising information to keep in it your memory, make sure you're always looking at your past topics frequently as when the hsc or trials rolls around, everything will be tested, so it's better to start early by keeping everything fresh in your brain.

I think it's pretty underground and it depends on the study methods people use to study.

I'm still working on getting used to all the things on the app but I'll get my friends onto it too.
