We know that the literacy level of people that live in the US is not all that high.

Why are people talking about either Obama or McCain as the 44th President when they will only be the 43rd? In other words, there have only been 42 presidents, including the current one.

Or have I missed one?

"Grover Cleveland served two non-consecutive terms and is counted as both the 22nd and the 24th president. Because of this, all presidents after the 23rd have their official listing increased by one."

How can you count the same person twice?

If you're doing that, then George W Bush would be the 54th and 55th president, because you'd count all terms served.

I think my point stands. Americans are stupid.

Actually, not all of them. I once met a very cute girl from Boston. She was blonde and smart as well! Definitely an anomaly.

Alfred Deakin was Australia's 2nd Prime Minister.

He served three separate non-consecutive terms.
They were the 2nd, 5th and 7th terms.
Does that make him the 2nd, 5th and 7th Prime Minister?
No. He's just the 2nd Prime Minister.
He's the 2nd person to be Prime Minister.
Kevin Rudd is the 26th Prime Minister.

George W Bush is the 42nd President.

My point stands. Americans can't count.
