Are 14 units too much for year 11?

In year 12, I intend on taking another unit for Ext. 2 Maths..

Depends on the person and the difficulty workload of your subjects.
What are your subjects so far?

I'm picking the following:

Ext. 1 English
Ext. 1 Maths
Biology
Chemistry
Modern History
Economics

Good subjects:spin: They are all pretty content heavy so I can't imagine that it would be a walk in the park but if you're prepared to give it a go and work hard you can definitely successfully do all of them :) If I were you I would start year 11 with them and then see how they go and how you cope with the workload. Then if you need to you can always drop your worst subject and still have 12 units. I have a few friends who are doing 14 units so it's not too uncommon and can definitely be done. Ultimately though it's up to you and what you personally think you can achieve. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Prelim's work load is A LOT, to prepare you for the HSC. If you want to dedicate equal amount of work to each subject and expect to do very well in all of them, it would be very difficult in my opinion.

However, if you believe that you can cope with a lot of work and if you're fairly talented academically, give it a go. You can always drop a 2u subject or drop ext.1 English if you don't like it (assuming you won't drop ext.1 maths since you need it for ext.2 obviously). If you do pursue to do Ext2 maths in year 12, definitely drop at least 1 of your subjects...

The end choice is yours but those are just my thoughts :)

I would agree.

Although 14 units is manageable, you will need to have good time organisation skills. You could try taking all of your units until your first assessment task. This will give you a gauge of how well you are coping and gives you a chance to drop if necessary.

14 units is ideal for Year 11 to find out what you really like/don't like. Maybe you might have a subject that you didn't actually like and should be able to drop it at anytime.

If you plan on taking on MX2 then I would say even 12 units would be extremely difficult to juggle unless you have excellent time management skills.
