I'm going to have to wait and see if a subject from another faculty will open up a spot for my Gen Ed requirements. Does subject swapping occur alot especially during this week until next week (Orientation week)?

Yes it does, more often than not you will get the course you want, just keep an eye out for it in the first week or two. Becareful not to change after census.

Should I reguarly see if I can add the course during this week or just check regularly via the course's timetable?

Ohh hang on, am I right that the timetable is updated nightly at around 1:30am after myUNSW's nightly offline schedule? So that means I should wait until then for the real updates.
