My friend wanted to know if her subjects were good, and what marks she'd need to get a 90+ atar..

Subjects are:
-English Standard
-Preliminary (2 unit) math
-Legal Studies
-Economics
-Business Studies
Studies of Religion

That's a good combination, but I would say (and I am sure many others would also say) that she should do English (Advanced). Standard English is similar to Advanced, but how the subject scales and aligns is totally different. Standard sets you up for a lower ATAR from the get go, and it's universally accepted that it is harder to do well in it. So, my advice is to elect Advanced, even if she hates English.

Ranks > Marks, but she should focus more on Standard English since the aligning is terrible

It might be hard to switch out of Standard, as OP is in Y11. I'm assuming both are in Y11 and well into their English course. At this point, school will probably not let her change.

If your friend wants a 90+ ATAR, reverse calculate it on ATAR calculators to see what HSC marks you need externally to get 90+.
(BTW, school rank?)

This pretty much - just fiddle around with an ATAR calculator, I think Matrix is the one with the reverse function.

Make sure your friend achieves consistent results throughout these last two years:)-Consistency is the key to a good ATAR:) Best wishes for your friend's senior studies:)
