Submajor+elective=major? (1 Viewer)

Hay guys

I went to the UWS open-day on Sunday [the 30th]. Not a bad day. I attended the admissions information lecture.

I couldn't quite grasp the bit on submajors/elective.

My query is: can one combine sub major units and elective units (i.e. the time) and turn it into another major.

My intention: Arts+Law in three years.



Hope I've worded my concern correctly.

What course are you planning on doing in particular?

eg - i was enrolled in Business/Law but the particular course i chose was Business (HRM and IR)/ Law.

I ask as - as a combined law student, in my degree at least, you didn't get to pick electives per se as your law units in years 1 - 3 whilst doing the non-law degree fill the space of what would otherwise be electives.

If the arts degree is anything like my combined Law degree - you will fill your Arts units up with the key program units anyway so you won't have any space to create any additional sort of major.



Be careful with the information that you rely on unless it comes from someone specifically talking about the combined law degrees as I found that some of the info I got about my non-law degree was not technically correct as there were sometimes different considerations in light of the law degree that was being done simultaneously.



Perhaps the best way to check is to conduct the uni's info centre or course enquiry people or someone like that?

Bah it was on my mind all day yet I didn't call. Tomorrow to go until the weekend.

Allow me to elaborate.

Say, I get an offer for BA (I intend on picking Asian Studies and INtl Relations as major). DAM i JUST realized that the submajor HAS to be languages in that.

Rather I could do another history/politics flavored major without the sub major restriction. The question now stands: Will I be able to use the sub-major units, add the elective units, and do a a Major instead? (Hence a 3 year combined degree) Super duper study loading in that I guess.

I spoke to them about a month ago. The dude said "if you don't get direct admission into the combined Law option, you could simply fill up your elective (non-sub-major) units with Law units and graduate with the BA and come back through the graduate-entry LAW and spend another 2 years completing the LLB". (Hence same length as the combined program).

Humm I think my thinking is flawed. I'll just clarify with the university itself.
