I have a hardish question (non calc)

1-3/4

in words 1+1/4 "over" 1- 3/4

umm i did it like

5/4

1/4 = 5/4 * 4/1 = 20/4 = 1/5 ////////But answer is 5 :S

ur on the right track, (5/4)/(1/4) = (top and bottom numbers multiplied)/(middle numbers multiplied)= 20/4= 5

Funny how usually for simple questions like this, the first reply usually answers the question, followed by author's revelation of his mistakes. Though even still, there must be a billion more replies communicating the same idea, just in a slighly different tone.

Haha, I thought it was a joke initially.

But usually when you get stuck on a question, you immediately perceive it to be difficult. So I'm not blaming the OP or anything.

i think people tend to exploit every opportunity to mock someone else's mistake/stupidity. Its just that urge that you get, to join the gang and laugh at someone, even though it means repeatedly pointing out the same thing.
