i'm a complete crime fic newbie and was wondering if anyone else had some supplementary texts for this area in mind? - either ones that you've used or are going to use, or just know about

and maybe if you've used it, how good it is as a supp. text...

any specific recommendations/suggestions? anything to stear clear of?

also - is it better to go for the more typical crime fic? or something with a "twist"?

mm what ive gathered so far is that to demonstrate what crime fiction is you should have texts which moslty conform to the conventions, but has some subtle differences so its different. also you gotta be careful to knew whether its a whodunnit or a whydunnit... that got a few ppl in my class screwed over in the last essay we had

For crime fiction... a good author to do is Minette Walters. It's so easy to write about her techniques. And you could even do the books that were made into film/tv series

im struggling with this extension thing, i went to a seminar the other day and apprently our related text choice is what makes us stand out, a word of advice from that forum was to steer clear of really popular fiction such as the Law and Orders... etc... as many students do it... short stories were recommended as well as movies.. good luck... make sure you know your stuff and you will be fine!

would you say the movie "Hoodwinked" is a good related text? i mean..it has clues, a detective, red herrings etc. and ofcourse a crime!

I don't understand either. Not all modern CF is feministic... Maybe you should make a 'forensic drama/tv- crime time' group. 'Feminism' is not the same thing as modern. If you're going to group them do it properly, or just use 'conventional' and 'subverted'.
However, they are all helpful texts. My hint is: read anything that is considered CF. Know as much about the genre as possible. It doesn't matter if you use conventional texts or subverted ones, as long as you can hold up your argument/point of view.

has anyone read it . i know it can be used as a supplementary text for imaginative journeys but my teacher seems to think i can do it for ext 1.
i did one assesment task using it n i mostly talked about how it subverted the conventions. do i need something that is more obviously a crime novel?

What about Dexter? Thats a good little show which has the serial kier of serial killers, an objctive narrator through Dexter himself and it even explains why its a whydunnit since we already know who dunnit.

We can mention about modern technologies with forensics, how Dexter is part of the "good team" and so its slightly different from the norm. Dexter gives us an insight into the loner character that is lost within himself but is an extension of hardboiled.
Yes he is a loner
No he doesn't smoke and drink or womanize excessively
Yes it dicusses issues such as single parenthood how his girlfriend's husband just got out of prison
Yes he does view the world with cynacism
No he isn't unorganized and untidy, he is quite maticulous and has to be, but more importantly he explains why he has to be.

I think Dexter is great, sure you gotta stay up on a Sunday night but to get great releated material like this why wouldn't you?
