Hey. So this would be my first time?
I just spent like half an hour reading through the majority of these posts and jeez, you guys are helpful! Thought you ought to know.

Okay, so I have a speech due next term. Deciding to get in on it early (our teacher expects us to anyway) and I'm stuck for a second Supp. Text. Our Physical Journey Text is Huck Finn, and I've chosen "The Town Where Time Stands Still" from the Stimulus Booklet. For my Supp. Texts, I only have one but, and it's the poem "Ithaca" by K.Kavafis..

Our teacher told us that if you're doing a novel (such as Huck Finn) you shouldn't use another novel because they want you to show that you can analyze a variety of difefrent techniques from varying sources, so.. I can't use another novel for my second piece, or a poem, or an extract.. and that puts it down to like, a play or a movie or a visual text? I hate visyal texts though. Bleugh. And I find analyzing movies lame? Our teacher said to steer away from them if you could anyway.

So.. to the point! (Sorry about that?) Does anybody know any good plays which relate to physical journeys? I was thinking "A Mid Summer Nights Dream" but I was wondering whether anyone knew any others.

I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks heaps.

I'm using the movie "Little Miss Sunshine", it's really great as a sup. for Physical. The lyrics to "The Journey" by Lea Salonga are pretty good too, but the message may be a bit obvious. I guess you could use it as an emergency text :p

hey, does any one know of any paintings/photographs that resemble journey?..... I have an assessment task which has three components to it.

cheers, Tess :)
I got a painting, "The Temptation Of Saint Anthony"-Salvador Dali

Some website that was googled... said:
In this picture temptation appears to Saint Anthony successively in the form of a horse in the foreground representing strength, sometimes also symbol of voluptuousness, and in the form of the elephant which follows it, carrying on its back the golden cup of lust in which a nude woman is standing precariously balanced on the fragile pedestal, a figure which emphasizes the erotic character of the composition. The other elephants are carrying buildings on their backs; the first of these is a obelisk inspired by that of Bernini in Rome, the second and third are burdened with Venetian edifices in the style of Palladio. In the background another elephant carries a tall tower which is not without phallic overtones, and in the clouds one can glimpse a few fragments of the Escorial, symbol of temporal and spiritual order. The elephant theme appears several time in Dali’s works of this period: for example, in Atomica Melancholica of 1945 and Triumph of Dionysus of 1953. This picture was painted in the studio that the artist occupied for a few days next to the Colony Restaurant in New York. It is the first and only time that he participated in a contest. It was an invitational artistic competition for a painting of the theme of the temptation of Saint Anthony, organised in 1946 by the Loew Lewin Company, a movie- producing firm. The winning picture was to figure in a film taken from the story "Bel Ami" by Maupassant. Eleven painters took part in the competition, among them Leonora Carrington, Dali, Paul Delvaux, Max Ernst, and Dorothea Tanning. The prize was given to Max Ernst by jury composed of Alfred Barr, Marcel Duchamp, and Sidney Janis. All these works were shown at an exhibition in Brussels and in Rome during 1947.
I just liked using an art work as a related text ^_^ I LOVE DALI, The painting relates to 'Crossing the Red Sea', as both have biblical connotations and such. If anyone wants to use it feel free to.

Re: physical journeys

well i would say that shrek and finding nemo are definately. They probably dont want you doing animated movies for whatever reason they have. They seem to encourage more substantial texts, but it didn't deter me - i used Ice Age without seeing the film for at lest 3 years. hmm and i did a shit job with it in the hsc too...
