newsagents would be easier than the tax office
ahaha, not for me. I went to about 7 different newsagents in my area and none had the application form. Ended up just getting a form from the taxation office itself. You can also order them online or phone them up to order. Takes about 4 working days to get them mailed to you.

your school should provide you with the papers
maybe the post office or newsagents
or try the ATO website

no appointment needed...

1. fill out the forms
2. send them away
3. get a letter with your TFN

I think I also have the option of filling out the form and just going to my nearest office (Parramatta iirc). Is this correct?

Also, it says to provide primary and secondary documents for proof of identity. Do i send my actual passport and drivers license?

I did all my paperwork at the Chatswood office without needing to send anything so I'm sure this will suffice.

Yes, photocopies will not be accepted. That's why I would recommend making an appointment (takes about 5-10 minutes) in contrast to sending by post.
