I'm just wondering about how students at (fully) selective high schools judge the quality of their maths teachers, and the value of their maths teacher in relation to the value of their tutor. So I'd like to conduct a survey. Feel free to answer any or all of these questions.

(1) Name your school (selective only)

(2) Give your own teacher a rating out of 10 (please don't name him/her if the rating is low).

(3) Give the maths staff as a whole a rating out of 10. You can base this on comments you hear from others at the school, or past teachers you've had.

(4) With regard to your own learning, rate the importance of your maths teacher vs the importance of tutoring using percentage comparisons, eg. 70-30 (you value your teacher more) or 20-80 (you value your tutor more).

Add any other comments, such as:
How the maths staff rates compared to the other faculties in the school.
Perhaps you might want to name the top maths teachers at your school to give them some recognition.

(I've posted this here since most selective high school students do at least extension 1, and many Ext 2 students might not look at the 2 unit forum.)

1. Macquarie fields high
2. 7/10
3. 6/10
4. 40-60

Basically, my school rushes through the topics so that's why I value my tutor more. My teacher is an alright teacher, past teachers were ok for their grade, but teaching seniors, no way.,
But my tutor is amazing, I go to alpha omega, would rate 9/10 if not 10. Half our grade failed the assessment, they purposely make the assessments hard to seperate the good and bad students but it's a bit annoying when my teacher copied and pasted some bs question we all thought was 3D trig but was like 2D elevated or something....

(1) Name your school (selective only)
Penrith High School
(2) Give your own teacher a rating out of 10 (please don't name him/her if the rating is low).
8/10 - Mr Ferguson (4U), 8.5/10 - Ms Walker
(3) Give the maths staff as a whole a rating out of 10. You can base this on comments you hear from others at the school, or past teachers you've had.
9/10 - They are ALWAYS willing to help and are very approachable, sufficiently sociable and excessively friendly.
(4) With regard to your own learning, rate the importance of your maths teacher vs the importance of tutoring using percentage comparisons, eg. 70-30 (you value your teacher more) or 20-80 (you value your tutor more).
85-15, the teachers at PHS for Mathematics were good enough to be the only teachers you have - tutors would only be useful if you still had some loose ends or were struggling with the subject.
