Is there a technique for the 'as though infected' part?

Simile could work because it can use "like" or "as". So, "as though infected" is equivalent to "like she was infected", which compares the influence of their gigantic scream to the virulence of an infectious disease (and implies negative connotations, though I have no idea what text this is and have no context).

yep this analysis is pretty good and simile is the technique u wanna use here
