1. How old are you? 13 14 15 16 17 18

2. What year are you in? 7 8 9 10 11 12

3. What size clothing are you? 12- 14

4. Are you happy with the way you look? Yes/No

5. Are you happy with the way you feel about your body? Yes/No

6. Have you ever considered yourself to be too big or too small? Yes/No

7. Do you follow the trends of celebrities? Yes/No

8. Do you believe that the media presents unrealistic images of celebrities in magazines and/or TV? Yes/No

9. Would you change anything about yourself (on the outside) if you had the chance? Scarring on my thighs and ankles

10. Name 3 female celebrities you look up to and why
Kate Winslet - amazing actress and absoulutely gorgeous
Kirstie Ally - respect whats shes been through in the medias eye and her determination
Abbie Cornish - gorgeous and great style

11. Have you bought clothes, makeup or cosmetics that has been endorsed by a celebrity?
Probably, but not because they were endorsed by celebrities.

12. Do you think most celebrities portray a positive body image for female teenagers? Why/ why not?
No, because positive bodies sell less magazines than negative. Anorexia is more appealing than a healthy BMI as a title.

13. Do you think there is an increasing pressure from society on teenage girls to be thin? If so, where do you think the pressure is coming from?
Yes, from the media and the need to be the 'ideal' weight. being over isnt good enough, below is even better. it works from lohan, right

14. 'Teenage girls who are unhappy with their own body are likely to think celebrities are thinner then they really are.' Do you agree with this statement? Why/ why not?
No. Theres plenty of indications that these celebrities really are under weight, for what ever reason.

15. What do you think is an ideal size for teenage girls today? Do you think this is what the media is portraying?
Ideal size is relative to your height and health. if you four foot four, being a size 14 means being chubby. similarly, if your 6 foot ten anbd size 6, youre going to look like a twig. So, its relative.

16. Do you believe that media presentation of thin female celebrity images is affecting males' attitudes towards female bodies, which is also putting increasing pressure on females to obtain the idealised body image?
Yes and no. yes in that, similar to porn, this is what they come to belive is 'best'. but no, because theres an instinctive pull to women who are curvaceous enough to bear children.

CELEBRITIES EFFECT ON TEENAGE BODY IMAGE QUESTIONNAIRE

Please answer the following questions. Write on the lines or circle your answer. Only circle one answer in each question. Do not write your name on this questionnaire.

1. How old are you? 13 14 15 16 17 18 19

2. What year are you in? 7 8 9 10 11 12 first year uni

3. What size clothing are you? 10-12
4. Are you happy with the way you look? Yes/No

5. Are you happy with the way you feel about your body? Yes/No

6. Have you ever considered yourself to be too big or too small? Yes/No

7. Do you follow the trends of celebrities? Yes/No/ s'times

8. Do you believe that the media presents unrealistic images of celebrities in magazines and/or TV? Yes/No

9. Would you change anything about yourself (on the outside) if you had the chance? yes

10. Name 3 female celebrities you look up to and why (1)pink- cos she's an individual and i love how she creates her own style (2) missy higgins cos i love her music and she brims with musical creativity - as a musican shes somebody who i aspire to be (3) penny wong (politician) shes come a long way from where she is...being chinese malaysian i really look up to her as a role model for other young asian aussies like me :)

11. Have you bought clothes, makeup or cosmetics that has been endorsed by a celebrity? no i prefer quirky clothes that nobody else has although i do buy the occassional item just cos i like it, despite the fact that it has been endorsed by a celeb.

12. Do you think most celebrities portray a positive body image for female teenagers? Why/ why not? no because its hollywood! age is seen as something to be ashamed about and people try and hide what is undeniable. casting agents in movies always choose somebody younger (and often prettier) to play the roles of older people (e.g. The OC) we get the paris' and nickys' and the lindsays' really reinforcing negative body images...but on the other hand we get ppl like britney spears who isnt happy with who she is.

13. Do you think there is an increasing pressure from society on teenage girls to be thin? If so, where do you think the pressure is coming from?
TV, magazines such as Dolly and Girlfriend, who despite the fact they say theyre supporting 'realistic body shapes' dont, as they feature skinny girls to promote products in their mag.
14. 'Teenage girls who are unhappy with their own body are likely to think celebrities are thinner then they really are.' Do you agree with this statement? Why/ why not? No. because magazines bag out thin celebs all the time (e.g. mischa barton)

15. What do you think is an ideal size for teenage girls today? Do you think this is what the media is portraying? Kinda depends on your genes, your frame, ethnicity...there is no right size. No i dont think this is what the media is portraying; it more or less emphasises the 'perfect body' is usu. caucasian, young and pretty and slender.

16. Do you believe that media presentation of thin female celebrity images is affecting males' attitudes towards female bodies, which is also putting increasing pressure on females to obtain the idealised body image?
Well yes and no...but it goes both ways...as i said before the images of celebs such as paris and nicky reinforce this notion that to have such and such assets (e.g. big boobs, fake tans, blonde hair) u will become popular and score with guys. and thats why u should change urself. it seems to work though and thats what makes it so sad.

1. How old are you? 17

2. What year are you in?12

3. What size clothing are you? 8-10
4. Are you happy with the way you look? Yes

5. Are you happy with the way you feel about your body? Yes

6. Have you ever considered yourself to be too big or too small? Yes

7. Do you follow the trends of celebrities? Yes

8. Do you believe that the media presents unrealistic images of celebrities in magazines and/or TV? Yes and No

9. Would you change anything about yourself (on the outside) if you had the chance? _yea i guess so, we can all see different things about our selves that no body else would notice it is just the way we feel about ourselves.

10. Name 3 female celebrities you look up to and why _Samire (dont know how to spell it) Armstrong- she just has such a positive energy.
Eva Mendez- she isnt unbelievably skinny, media hasn't really been on her that much and i think is jsut a good role model.
Rachel Bilson- she has a small fram but isn't too skinny, awesome style and i like her acting.

11. Have you bought clothes, makeup or cosmetics that has been endorsed by a celebrity? Yea, but not becasue of the celeb, just becasue it has good reviews and it just so happens that the celebrity has endorsed it.
12. Do you think most celebrities portray a positive body image for female teenagers? Why/ why not? i think it depends on the celbrity, some do some others don't. The likes of beyonce and Eva Mendez show the sexiness of curves and show that they are happy with their body image and other girls should be too!
13. Do you think there is an increasing pressure from society on teenage girls to be thin? If so, where do you think the pressure is coming from? I think there is a certain pressure placed on girls to be thin, however there is also an increasing pressure not to be fat, so i understand why people become confused and unhappy with their body as they do not feel like society is a ccepting them either way.
14. 'Teenage girls who are unhappy with their own body are likely to think celebrities are thinner then they really are.' Do you agree with this statement? Why/ why not? Some girls would i guess, but then we cannot generalise that every girl believes this. I dont think that people believe that celbrities are thinner then they really are, but rather, they are bigger then they are in reality.
15. What do you think is an ideal size for teenage girls today? Do you think this is what the media is portraying?i don't believe there is an ideal size, some girls are built bigger or smaller than others, for some, no matter how much they eat, they just don't put on weight and i don't think it is fair to them to judge them and say that they must have image issues because they are so skinny. I guess a healthy size is the ideal size.
16.Do you believe that media presentation of thin female celebrity images is affecting males' attitudes towards female bodies, which is also putting increasing pressure on females to obtain the idealised body image?I wouldn't know how the male mind works, but i do think that women believe that the image celebrities portray is the image men desire.

12. Do you think most celebrities portray a positive body image for female teenagers? Why/ why not? depends on the celebrity

13. Do you think there is an increasing pressure from society on teenage girls to be thin? If so, where do you think the pressure is coming from?its comming from a range of sources... the media is just one, celebrities are another, and the peers around one can also have major influences

9. Would you change anything about yourself (on the outside) if you had the chance? Yes, i would- i have never liked my appearance, and i wish that i had straight hair

10. Name 3 female celebrities you look up to and why
Mandy Moore- shes not afraid to be herself
Amanda Bynes- shes gorgeous
Nicole Richie- the amazing transformation shes gone through for being a mother, she no longer is crash dieting and looking like a stick figure

11. Have you bought clothes, makeup or cosmetics that has been endorsed by a celebrity? Yes

12. Do you think most celebrities portray a positive body image for female teenagers? Why/ why not? Some do protray a healthy body image, however most for example Posh, really protray unrealistic images that we know are unreachable but still create images in teens minds, that we need to be like them

13. Do you think there is an increasing pressure from society on teenage girls to be thin? If so, where do you think the pressure is coming from?
I believe there is an increasing pressure to be thin, this comes not only through an individual's body disatisfaction she has with her self, but also the sociocultural pressures like media, friends, advertisements.

14. 'Teenage girls who are unhappy with their own body are likely to think celebrities are thinner then they really are.' Do you agree with this statement? Why/ why not?
Yes, body disatifaction is a medical condition which results in unrealistic thinking, advertisements for an example trigger negative thoughts which create unrealistic measures, desires and goals in the teens life.

15. What do you think is an ideal size for teenage girls today? Do you think this is what the media is portraying? the ideal size is independently choosen to suit each girl, however its one thats healthy and fit.

16. Do you believe that media presentation of thin female celebrity images is affecting males' attitudes towards female bodies, which is also putting increasing pressure on females to obtain the idealised body image?
Yes, males are constantly seeing attractive females in media, they then place a silent expectation on what they see as an attractive chic to hang out with, this results in females taking drastic measures to create an images like the ones in the media so that they can be seen.

16. Do you believe that media presentation of thin female celebrity images is affecting males' attitudes towards female bodies, which is also putting increasing pressure on females to obtain the idealised body image?
No. People want to spend time with others of similar attractivness to avoid feelings of inferiority. Therefore ugly males will find an ugly female companion because they will not be able to stand being always uglier or inferior. Likewise, an attractive male will end up with an attractive female because they will not like ugly people, but will feel equal with the other person.

11. Have you bought clothes, makeup or cosmetics that has been endorsed by a celebrity? __yeah, maybelline, rimmel ect all use celebs in advertising__________________________________________

12. Do you think most celebrities portray a positive body image for female teenagers? Why/ why not? Yes, most celebrities say you should be happy with who you are and not all are stick thin, ect. I guess lots of airbrushing ect make female teenagers wish they looked like that

13. Do you think there is an increasing pressure from society on teenage girls to be thin? If so, where do you think the pressure is coming from?
I don't think there's any more pressure today than in the past. People are becoming more obese though, so maybe the advocation of trying to lose weight creates more pressure to be thinner.

14. 'Teenage girls who are unhappy with their own body are likely to think celebrities are thinner then they really are.' Do you agree with this statement? Why/ why not? No I dont think they'd see others as being thinner than what they are, it would more likely be they see THEMSELVES as being bigger.

15. What do you think is an ideal size for teenage girls today? Do you think this is what the media is portraying?
I don't think there's an ideal size because some people are just built a certain way, so if they're a 6 or 8 it doesn't mean their unhealthy. I think the ideal size is a healthy range for them which doesn't involve them losing weight to try to be thin but also not being unhealthy and overweight.

16. Do you believe that media presentation of thin female celebrity images is affecting males' attitudes towards female bodies, which is also putting increasing pressure on females to obtain the idealised body image?
I think males could think certain celebrities are hot but their opinion of them doesn't effect how they see females around them. Each guy has their own opinion on what type of girls they like and I dont think celebrity bodies are effecting this.

9. Would you change anything about yourself (on the outside) if you had the chance? yes, why do you think i do sport? not because i enjoy it, just to get fit!

10. Name 3 female celebrities you look up to and why
angelina jolie - gorgeous, skinny etc and does alot of good things.
paris hilton- thats hot. good clothes etc, looks good.
kate hudson- skinny, blonde, beautiful.

11. Have you bought clothes, makeup or cosmetics that has been endorsed by a celebrity? of course.

12. Do you think most celebrities portray a positive body image for female teenagers? Why/ why not?
the media only tends to show the pregnant ones or the anorexic/bulimic/sick celebs. but if you look you will see many celebs with a positive nice body image.

13. Do you think there is an increasing pressure from society on teenage girls to be thin? If so, where do you think the pressure is coming from?
yes. the media is constantly showing skinny girls. modelling agencies are choosing sizes 6-8, over size 10-12. these images are changing societies veiw. you ask any guy, he would choose a skinny girl over a larger girl, and most girls are affected by what guys think. so i think thats where pressure is coming from.

14. 'Teenage girls who are unhappy with their own body are likely to think celebrities are thinner then they really are.' Do you agree with this statement? Why/ why not?
this question has confused me a bit.. are they thinking celebrities are skinner than the girl, or that celebrities are skinner than what the audience perceives?

15. What do you think is an ideal size for teenage girls today? Do you think this is what the media is portraying?
8, we are constantly seeing size 8 celebs with noce flat abs. what girl wouldnt want that?!

16. Do you believe that media presentation of thin female celebrity images is affecting males' attitudes towards female bodies, which is also putting increasing pressure on females to obtain the idealised body image?

No. They make it seem like a necessity to be bone thin. Negative image for teenage girls. Rar rar anorexia. Media portrayal - huge impact.

13. Do you think there is an increasing pressure from society on teenage girls to be thin? If so, where do you think the pressure is coming from?
Yes. Magazines, advertising, movies, tv, everywhere. Thin is in. For now.

14. 'Teenage girls who are unhappy with their own body are likely to think celebrities are thinner then they really are.' Do you agree with this statement? Why/ why not?
Lolwhat? No. Teenage girls who aren't happy with their own body know that celebrities are the weight they seem. "Why can't I be thin like [insert ribcage name here]?". It could be denial, but I doubt any girls are likely to think that.

15. What do you think is an ideal size for teenage girls today? Do you think this is what the media is portraying?
Depends on height, bone density etc. None of this sack of bones rubbish. Media portrays stick thin girls who need specially made clothes fit their size 2 bodies...

16. Do you believe that media presentation of thin female celebrity images is affecting males' attitudes towards female bodies, which is also putting increasing pressure on females to obtain the idealised body image?
Yes.

1. How old are you? 17 (18 next month)

2. What year are you in? 12

3. What size clothing are you? usually an 18/20, but sometimes a 16/22, depending on sizing

4. Are you happy with the way you look? usually

5. Are you happy with the way you feel about your body? usually

6. Have you ever considered yourself to be too big or too small? Yes

7. Do you follow the trends of celebrities? Sort of...I'll never buy something just cause such and such wore it, but if I happen to see a celebrity wearing something that I like, I'll get a similar thing if I can

8. Do you believe that the media presents unrealistic images of celebrities in magazines and/or TV? Yes

9. Would you change anything about yourself (on the outside) if you had the chance? Yeah, I could lose some weight.

10. Name 3 female celebrities you look up to and why
Amy Lee - She's a brilliant musician, who thinks for herself. Also, she's got really pale skin, and doesn't wear fake tan to cover it up.

Ella Hooper - Also a brilliant musician, who thinks for herself. She's also never given into that whole celebrity thing where you make an effort to get in magazines, and show off the guy hanging off your arm.

Avril Lavigne - More pre-2006ish than now. But she's always done what she wants to do, ignored the hype, and basically been herself. Even now, getting all the crap about selling out, she's still doing what she wants. And she's not a bad musician, either

11. Have you bought clothes, makeup or cosmetics that has been endorsed by a celebrity? Almost definitley, but not knowingly/because of who was promoting it

12. Do you think most celebrities portray a positive body image for female teenagers? Most of the ones who get all the media attention don't really portray a positive anything image for girls. Look at who's always making headlines - Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Richie, Britney Spears and co. Famous for getting trashed, sleeping around, being in rehab and being too thin. But that being said, there are plenty of celebrities around who hardly ever make the headlines, and don't end up in rehab with a drug addiction and an eating disorder, who look after themselves and the people they care about.

13. Do you think there is an increasing pressure from society on teenage girls to be thin? If so, where do you think the pressure is coming from? I hope it's not increasing, because it's ridiculous now. The media portrays skinny people are hot, you rarely see models over about a size 12, and most places consider you a "plus size" if you're a size 16. There's not alot around to portray the message that it's okay to not be bone thin.

14. 'Teenage girls who are unhappy with their own body are likely to think celebrities are thinner then they really are.' Do you agree with this statement? I'd say more likely, but yes. If you're miserable about how you look, then you're likely to see other people's looks in an exaggerated way. But at the same time, it's probably not so much that they'll think other people are thinner, as they'll see people who are too thin, and think that's how they should look (but only in some cases - other people won't take any notice of how other people look).

15. What do you think is an ideal size for teenage girls today? Do you think this is what the media is portraying? The ideal size depends on the person. If I lost half my body weight, I'd be dangerously thin, but still wearing size 18/20 clothes, because I'm 1.78m tall, and other stuff isn't long enough. One of my best friends is quite short, and if she were anything larger than about a 10 or 12, then she'd be overweight.
The media doesn't portray this - the basic idea that people get is that anything over a 12 or 14 or over about 50kg is fat, regardless of your build. And that doesn't just apply to height. One of the girls I go to school with is a swimmer. She has broad shoulders, so her shoulders are at least a clothing size bigger than her waist, and according to her BMI, she's overweight, but she's actually skinny - all that extra weight comes from muscle.

16. Do you believe that media presentation of thin female celebrity images is affecting males' attitudes towards female bodies, which is also putting increasing pressure on females to obtain the idealised body image? Actually, a recent survey by FMH (I think) showed that most men would have dated either their size 12 or 16 model, rather than the size 8. The main pressure on females comes from other females, and the fact that we tend to be competitive and want to outdo our friends/women on tv etc.

1. How old are you? 13 14 15 16 17 18

2. What year are you in? 7 8 9 10 11 12

3. What size clothing are you? 8-10

4. Are you happy with the way you look? Yes/No

5. Are you happy with the way you feel about your body? Yes/No Sometimes

Yes, I'd like to lose some weight/tone up.

10. Name 3 female celebrities you look up to and why
Linda McCartney - A timeless figure of society; a dedicated advocate for animal rights, and was also a wonderful mother at the end of the day.
Angelina Jolie - Yet another tireless and unselfish advocate for countless charities, an UN ambassador; while still maintaining her own family life.
Tyra Banks - She's independent, talented and completely her own woman, yet still generous and giving.

11. Have you bought clothes, makeup or cosmetics that has been endorsed by a celebrity? Yes

12. Do you think most celebrities portray a positive body image for female teenagers? Why/ why not? I personally think many of the celebrities we see today do not portray a positive body image to the female population in general.
Many (eg. Victoria Beckham and Paris Hilton) convey that they do not go to great lengths to achieve the "perfect body", when in actual fact, they do. This sets unrealistic and ridiculous standards for women, especially teenagers.
13. Do you think there is an increasing pressure from society on teenage girls to be thin? If so, where do you think the pressure is coming from?
Yes, the pressure is coming from mainly the media. Many industries that are highly glamourised by the media currently are portrayed using thinner women. This furthers the illusion of thin = beautiful.

14. 'Teenage girls who are unhappy with their own body are likely to think celebrities are thinner then they really are.' Do you agree with this statement? Why/ why not? I think this statement is quite true, as the mind is a powerful thing. If you are unhappy with how you look, you are more than likely to think that you are 'ugly' and 'fat' when you are actually not.

15. What do you think is an ideal size for teenage girls today? Do you think this is what the media is portraying? An ideal size is one where you feel comfortable with; discluding exterior influences such as the media. An ideal size is also one in which you are healthy and fit.

16. Do you believe that media presentation of thin female celebrity images is affecting males' attitudes towards female bodies, which is also putting increasing pressure on females to obtain the idealised body image?
Yes, definitely.

11. Have you bought clothes, makeup or cosmetics that has been endorsed by a celebrity? No
12. Do you think most celebrities portray a positive body image for female teenagers? Why/ why not? I don't believe they do. There are some celebrities out there who don't care about there size or looks. But you get other celebrities that care about there looks and freak when they have a small fat roll or the make-up isn't done right.
13. Do you think there is an increasing pressure from society on teenage girls to be thin? If so, where do you think the pressure is coming from?
Yes, because the media portrays thinness as being a necessity not a it doesn't matter
14. 'Teenage girls who are unhappy with their own body are likely to think celebrities are thinner then they really are.' Do you agree with this statement? Why/ why not? I agree with this statement because people believe being thin is being beautiful. I know some teenagers younger than me who have become anorexic because they believed they were fat. When they were a size 6-8.

15. What do you think is an ideal size for teenage girls today? Do you think this is what the media is portraying?
Comfortable within youreself. Personally I'm not comfortable unless I'm wearing my size 8 jeans that fit perfectly. I dislike skirts that are mini, dresses I don't where. My size 8-10 jeans and size 8 tops are comfortable for me. But not for others.
16. Do you believe that media presentation of thin female celebrity images is affecting males' attitudes towards female bodies, which is also putting increasing pressure on females to obtain the idealised body image?
Yes, absolutely.

Please answer the following questions. Write on the lines or circle your answer. Only circle one answer in each question. Do not write your name on this questionnaire.

1. How old are you? 13 14 15 16 17 18

2. What year are you in? 7 8 9 10 11 12

3. What size clothing are you? 14

Yes/No

9. Would you change anything about yourself (on the outside) if you had the chance? maybe
10. Name 3 female celebrities you look up to and why
Jess Alba ---------> she's hot!
Amanda Bynes -------> shes taken herself out and away from the hollywood brat pack
Oprah Winfrey----> who doesn't like her, she does so many admirable things

11. Have you bought clothes, makeup or cosmetics that has been endorsed by a celebrity? no

12. Do you think most celebrities portray a positive body image for female teenagers? Why/ why not?
NO! recently- like 2 years or so ago, it was cool for all the hollywood ppl to be anorexic, and now it seems to be cool to be pregnant.. They just do whatever, coz its the new trend! some do, but mostly, no!

13. Do you think there is an increasing pressure from society on teenage girls to be thin? If so, where do you think the pressure is coming from?
Its not increasing at the moment, but yes it has increased. Watching shows like America/Australia's next top model and watching all the "plus" sized girls get kicked out in the first few weeks presents the image that you must be thin to suceed. Similarly, celebrites, models etc... "beautiful people" also portray this "thin= sucess" idea... that sucks!

14. 'Teenage girls who are unhappy with their own body are likely to think celebrities are thinner then they really are.' Do you agree with this statement? Why/ why not? I dont really agree.. the fact is celebrites ARE thin, and beautiful. Teenage girls who look at celebrites and want to be as thin as them will critique themselves, not the celebrities... if that makes sense... they're not gonna look at themselves (at the same size as their role model celeb) and go, well shes actually thinner than me, so i must get thinner.. its the mentality that the thinner you are the better, so they will aim to be increasingly thinner than that celeb

15. What do you think is an ideal size for teenage girls today? Do you think this is what the media is portraying? I think that the media portrays a size 6/8= perfect idea. For example, Teenage girl magazines, although claiming that they support the idea of bigger girls as healthy and beautiful, still use tiny size 0 models for their fashion shoots!! GAH!

16. Do you believe that media presentation of thin female celebrity images is affecting males' attitudes towards female bodies, which is also putting increasing pressure on females to obtain the idealised body image? well i believe that only guys who are dickheads will pressure a girl to be thinner, and what it comes down to is the people that you surround yourself with... sure, if you have friends that value your size above your personality, then yes, it does affect females body image- but otherwise, the comments of "males" (the collective) mostly wont affect a females body image

1. How old are you? 13 14 15 16 17 18

2. What year are you in? 7 8 9 10 11 12

3. What size clothing are you? um around 12 I think but I prefer to wear baggier clothes so I buy around size 14

Yes/No

9. Would you change anything about yourself (on the outside) if you had the chance? probably not, couldn't be bothered

10. Name 3 female celebrities you look up to and why sorry, don't know any  _______________________________________________________

_______________________________________________________

11. Have you bought clothes, makeup or cosmetics that has been endorsed by a celebrity? I don't buy makeup or cosmetics...clothes I don't think so, either my mother buys them or I buy them from Target etc

12. Do you think most celebrities portray a positive body image for female teenagers? Why/ why not? I guess not, but I suppose the ones who would be in the news would be the weird ones so teenagers have more exposure to them, but there are lots of normal-looking ones. I don't really follow celebrities so can't be sure though.

13. Do you think there is an increasing pressure from society on teenage girls to be thin? If so, where do you think the pressure is coming from?
Um probably media/celebrities would have an impact, but I think mostly from one's peer group and friends. This applies to lots of other things too, not just being thin (both relating to looks and otherwise).

14. 'Teenage girls who are unhappy with their own body are likely to think celebrities are thinner then they really are.' Do you agree with this statement? Why/ why not? I suppose it is not unheard of, but these days most people have the sense to know that a lot of it is fake. I think comparisons to friends/peers are more likely (thinking friends are all better-looking etc).

15. What do you think is an ideal size for teenage girls today? Do you think this is what the media is portraying? Um...depends on a lot of things. Within limits of course, most body sizes are pretty good. Depends on height, bone structure, genes etc - and lots of people think curvy is better than skinny anyway.

16. Do you believe that media presentation of thin female celebrity images is affecting males' attitudes towards female bodies, which is also putting increasing pressure on females to obtain the idealised body image?
Judging from my (albeit limited) experience of males, most don't really care as long as you are vaguely good looking. Some males probably would be affected though, but if you are stupid enough to be pressured by him then you deserve each other. Most people are pretty accepting anyway.

12. Do you think most celebrities portray a positive body image for female teenagers? Why/ why not? Most celbs_portray a negative image as they give teenagers like me that they are TOO thin and that they should be dieting which is a personal descion which should not be influenced by others.
. Do you think there is an increasing pressure from society on teenage girls to be thin? If so, where do you think the pressure is coming from?
As said in the previous message celebrities in magz/tv has increase the pressure to be thin which makes girls be thin then makes a individual feel that they need to be thin to be accepted

14. 'Teenage girls who are unhappy with their own body are likely to think celebrities are thinner then they really are.' Do you agree with this statement? Why/ why not? I disagree with this statement because we can see the reality even though im not fat im not skinny either i still realise that celbrities are who they are because of the career choice they followed and that has pressure to be thin. I think every one can see the reality,.

CELEBRITIES EFFECT ON TEENAGE BODY IMAGE QUESTIONNAIRE

Please answer the following questions. Write on the lines or circle your answer. Only circle one answer in each question. Do not write your name on this questionnaire.

1. How old are you? 13 14 15 16 17 18

2. What year are you in? 7 8 9 10 11 12

3. What size clothing are you? 14-ish.

Yes, but it's a lot of hard work I suppose. And besides, more important to be a good person, yeah?

10. Name 3 female celebrities you look up to and why
Kiera Knightley, mainly because of her accent, lol.
Beyonce, she's gorgeous and not afraid to not be tiny.
Angelina Jolie, mainly because I like her movies and she's interesting to listen to.

11. Have you bought clothes, makeup or cosmetics that has been endorsed by a celebrity? Probably, but not because they were endorsed by a celeb.
Just happened to like the stuff?

12. Do you think most celebrities portray a positive body image for female teenagers? Why/ why not?
Not really. They have to stay a certain way to fit in with what we demand of them, and to stay out of magazine (that WE buy) for being criticised for how they look.
So we put the pressure on them (along with media), which in turn puts pressure on us to be like them.
Which is completely unrealistic, and there are probably far more important things for young girls to be thinking about.

13. Do you think there is an increasing pressure from society on teenage girls to be thin? If so, where do you think the pressure is coming from?
Friends, boys, the media, family in some cases.

14. 'Teenage girls who are unhappy with their own body are likely to think celebrities are thinner then they really are.' Do you agree with this statement? Why/ why not?
Because celebrities are very thin?
(Mostly, anyway). Besides, its not only girls who are unhappy with their own bodies that will criticise celebrities.
Although girls that are happy with themselves are more likely to not care what others' look like. In my opinion.

15. What do you think is an ideal size for teenage girls today? Do you think this is what the media is portraying?
I think an ideal size, depending on natural body type is probably around 10 or 12.
But it is more important to be healthy than fit a certain size.
So if you're outside that range, it shouldn't really matter, as long as you're comfortable with who you are and you're healthy by your own standards, no other peoples'.
And the media probably doesn't portray this as much.
It's probably more 6/8's, which on a lot of people just looks unhealthy.

16. Do you believe that media presentation of thin female celebrity images is affecting males' attitudes towards female bodies, which is also putting increasing pressure on females to obtain the idealised body image?
Yeah, more or less.

They see people looking a certain way on television, and seem to have some trouble understanding why not all girls look like this.
Then again, not all males are like this, and have more realistic expectations, or even find what is portrayed in the media to be ugly.
To each their own.

Hope that helped a little =)

3. What size clothing are you? ___6-8____________________________

4. Are you happy with the way you look? Yes/No

5. Are you happy with the way you feel about your body? Yes/No

6. Have you ever considered yourself to be too big or too small? Yes/No

7. Do you follow the trends of celebrities? Yes/No kind of

8. Do you believe that the media presents unrealistic images of celebrities in magazines and/or TV? Yes/No We're taught to think that they do, but personally I'm undecided.

9. Would you change anything about yourself (on the outside) if you had the chance? I'm not satisfied with my appearance as I said, but I wouldn't change it. The logistics are too expensive/tedious.

10. Name 3 female celebrities you look up to and why
Julia Gillard - she makes me feel like you don't have to act pretty to be successful
Keira Knightly - she's so elegant and thin
Scarlett Johannson - she's curvy but it suits her!

11. Have you bought clothes, makeup or cosmetics that has been endorsed by a celebrity? Yes

12. Do you think most celebrities portray a positive body image for female teenagers? Why/ why not?

No, because they make it seem like you have to slog your guts out physically if you want to lose a few kilos or emotionally if you want to just be yourself.

13. Do you think there is an increasing pressure from society on teenage girls to be thin? If so, where do you think the pressure is coming from?

I think the pressure to be thin is much as it ever was, not increasing. But it is still far too demanding of teenage girls and detrimental to their sense of self. It is now innate within all sections of society - from friends, family and media.

14. 'Teenage girls who are unhappy with their own body are likely to think celebrities are thinner then they really are.' Do you agree with this statement? Why/ why not?

I agree teenage girls are usually unhappy with their bodies, or say they are because they don't want to seem vain.

I don't like to generalise, but I think many people think they're fatter than they are - or say they think they're fatter than they are - and think celebrities are all far thinner on principle.

15. What do you think is an ideal size for teenage girls today? Do you think this is what the media is portraying?
Ideal size = whatever she feels comfortable with
The media try to portray this view when it suits them - you know, all those 'love yourself' articles in magazines but they usually just stick to the traditional, implicit 'you aren't attractive enough'

16. Do you believe that media presentation of thin female celebrity images is affecting males' attitudes towards female bodies, which is also putting increasing pressure on females to obtain the idealised body image?

I hope boys aren't that shallow. But because the media's presentation of females affect females, I think it would also affect men. We just have to break free of slavery to the media! (Says the girl who wants to be a journalist.)

10. Name 3 female celebrities you look up to and why
Hayden.P - she cares about te environment & is a happy & healthy girl that doesnt follow the "skinny trend"
Cate Blanchett - she's an amazing actress & i usually quote alot from her movies ( which i annoyin )
Hayley Williams - She unique & doesn't really care what people thing of her. She's got a hectic voice & i love her hair :D

11. Have you bought clothes, makeup or cosmetics that has been endorsed by a celebrity? No, because i find there too expensive & i can do so much more with that amount of money.

12. Do you think most celebrities portray a positive body image for female teenagers? Why/ why not? No, becaus the majority of celebrities today are really skinny & have really bad eating habits. Take Nicole Richie as an example. She's as skinny as a stick & im quite astonished that her baby made it. No offence.

13. Do you think there is an increasing pressure from society on teenage girls to be thin? If so, where do you think the pressure is coming from?
Definetely, i believe all the pressure is coming from the media & other people teasing teenage girls about the way they look.

14. 'Teenage girls who are unhappy with their own body are likely to think celebrities are thinner then they really are.' Do you agree with this statement? Why/ why not? No, because they may be unhappy with the body because they're too skinny & failing to gain weight & so they'd look up to larger ce;lebrities. Wells, it really just depends on the situation.

15. What do you think is an ideal size for teenage girls today? Do you think this is what the media is portraying? I think a reasonable size for teenagers would be from sizes 10-14. The media are beginning to bring it up but i don't think them message is coming up enough.

16. Do you believe that media presentation of thin female celebrity images is affecting males' attitudes towards female bodies, which is also putting increasing pressure on females to obtain the idealised body image?

Yes, some of my guy mates tend to freak out when they see a girl that is too skinny. Skinny celebrities sort of tell a guy how the girl shouldn't be like in size. It will show the guy that the girl doesn't believe in herself & tries to be like celebrities.
