You are correct, Howard would have said 'No, don't spend the money!'. And he would have been 100% correct. $42 billion on a package that at the very best will marginally stimulate the economy, and at worst do absolutely nothing? We may as well as spent the money at the track, because at the track you can study the form. And the form in getting out of a recession is tax cuts. It's been anecdotally proven. Guess when you have Wayne Swan with the keys to your cash you ought to feel nervous.

I was being sarcastic.
I think the Liberals should be in government for any issue to do with the economy. Labour is useless. Especially with a diplomat, not an economicst, at it's head.
Libs would have been far more restricted and steady-handed in their economic stimulus bills. There would have been no cash bonuses, for a start.
Rudd seems to think that he has a holy crusade and a blank check to keep positive growth, no matter the cost to we youth and our children. The role of government is to help stabalise and moderate a recession, not to avoid it completely.
