Dems going to start fresh with someone new
You mean like...someone who isnt either over the hill or has been around so long they have more baggage then the Kardashians? Lies.
nah dems are picking a straight white man no doubt about it
maybe butt(plug)igieg but even that might be seen as too risky, especially since the brothers and the hombres ain't too keen on no punk
They will almost certainly go with a straight white male from a swing state with a fairly moderate platform. There is no way they go with Pete, being gay makes him virtually unelectable on a national level. Also, he has never been elected to a state-wide office so his actual electoral appeal is unknown.
As much as the democrats blew this election and Donald Trump played a good game, I wouldn't make too much of it overall. American politics over the past 20 years has very much being cyclical. One party gets in, the countries issues don't get fixed and the electorate swiftly votes them out. Think about it:
- GWB and the Republicans hold major offices for a while, there is a backlash and Obama/the Dems dominate
- There is a backlash against Obama and the Dems are swept out except for him. This culminates in Trumps election
- Trump suffers a huge mid-term loss in 2018 and is swamped out of office in 2020.
- The Dems are crushed in 2024
The problem is, America has major issues and either party cant do much to deal with them. People also have very unrealistic expectations of Federal Governments, mostly because they dont understand the concept of a Federation. In a Federation (such as Australia and the US), the states are the most important branch of government as they actually manage the things that impact your daily lives (i.e. health, criminal justice, education, transport etc). The Federal governments (outside of Defence and Foreign Affairs) are mostly focused on policy and funding. Ive said many times, fixing a society falls mostly to the states as opposed to the Federal government. The model most people (and even politicians) expect is that Federal Governments lead and are supported by the states. In reality, the states should be taking the lead with the Federal Government acting as an enabler.
