Hello,

I was doing some fake marks to see what would happen if i put so and so number with my subjects to see what I could get with those marks. I realised that I would need to get over 85 and in the 90's to do pretty well... and to get an atar of atleast 90. Also if i do well in history extension i can get scaled up.

However is this calculator a good source? I was just curious so i thought i use it lol

It generally is; the main subjects aren't that volatile in scaling so you'd get a pretty accurate ATAR result if you plug in the aligned HSC mark.

I did the ATAR calculator, apparently through all my subjects I have to get 80-85 to get above 75 ATAR. Don't rely too much on it, just do what you can cause that's what you can do, your best.

Is this your own subjects? (English Advanced | Physics | Chemistry | Maths Ext 1 & 2 | Business Studies)
If that's what you're doing then it should be 99.95.

The calculator is very accurate when dealing with final marks, so its extremely useful the day before the ATAR's are released. Otherwise it can give you a general idea of what you need for a certain ATAR.

Hmmm I see....

When I realised the marks i need to get, i was thinking "oh okay, i think i can do this." - However, what if i study and study try really hard, but then my mark is not really what i expected? I have heard that happen to some people. :(

You guys have to realise that your raw marks get aligned not scaled. Scaling is done by UAC and aligning is done by BoS. BoS will moderate your raw mark - through aligning - then calculate your HSC mark with the internal marks - provided by your school - which are also heavily moderated. Once you get these HSC marks then you put them into the ATAR calculator and it scales them to get an estimated ATAR.

But remember raw marks are a lot lower than your HSC mark. For example, a 73/100 in chemistry aligns to a 90 HSC mark, etc..

But the data used for those calculators are for previous years' marks/scaled marks. This then makes the predictions somewhat relevant but probably not completely reliable. They would give a good idea of an ATAR with the HSC results.

Oh really? I thought they were scaled this whole time...

Well since I didn't so well in my Pre lims, considering the very low amount of study (Usually about three or four days in advance :S) I put them in the calculator and got an 80.8! Well obviously excluding assignments, which i do well in too.

So if i work so much harder and am organised, maybe I can achieve a 90, maybe. :)

The atar equivalent is the scaled mark of each particular subject you entered (regarding your mark). Each of these marks undergoes a process to achieve your overall atar (i think)
