I'm not really a Nader or Brown fan and just because I vote for Greens doesn't make me a fucking leftie you silly billy. I doubt you've got a clue what me stance is.

Don't talk to me about "perenially undermining" the political abilities of the right when I can barely post something critical of Howard without feeling somewhat guilty or admiring the man in some way.

But Bush is not Howard (Reagan or Truman or Bush Sr.) and no matter how much you try to paint a positive caricature of him in the future, there's just little evidence at all that's how he'll actually be perceived.

He does not even have a legacy in the Middle East to stand the test of time: public opinion is that he botched the job, and if anybody actually finishes it, it's looking likely to be the Democrats (unless it lasts another 4 years). Who do you think history will look kindly upon? The guy who started the war, or the guy who ended it?
Oh well in that case I sincerely apologise I don't respect your politics either it seems. There is little reason why Whitlam who presided over economic turmoil, whose government survived just three years, who lost more elections than he won, two by landslide margins, should be remembered fondly. People for the large part resent his government taking place it seems, yet people, a great many of them manage to fondly point out his brilliant oratory, his abolition of the death penalty, his free tertiary education etc. When the dust settles perceptions change.

I'm sure if you were around in 1977 you'd have been convinced that Gough would go down in history as the most unpopular man since Billy Hughes.

And yet Reagan is leagues more popular than Carter, Bush or LBJ. JFK barely won office in an election many people think was dodgy and had he not been killed would have a less glossy narrative.

It's the one real fuck up of his career, though, and even then it could've been worse. Had he left it after they'd driven the North Koreans back and not followed Macarthur's suggestion to destroy them it'd be seen as a masterstroke. And then, following that and the Chinese involvement, he managed to avoid a potential Third World War. Given so much else he did was awesome, I rate him in my top five.

Lincoln was a massive gay
He's a bit overrated, I'd say (though not to Washington levels), but he wasn't THAT gay.

Johnson fucked up on Vietnam and civil rights lost the dems the south/power for last 40yrs imo (until this moment)
Vietnam was a massive fuckup, and is the sole reason he's not up there next to/above Truman on this here, because the rest was all super-cool.

Kennedy? The whole 2years?
Closer to three, and he did well for much of it. Though hardly the president of the 20th century people like to make him out to be, he was solid.

lol Ford
lol Carter
lol Bush Snr
Agreed, they all avoided being last because of each other and because of:

Reagan was best on list after Lincoln
No way. Massive cockhead. Fucked the working class, ignored AIDS. His shitty policies are only now showing up the Republicans for the party of extremists they've become. His one supposed masterstroke, ending the Cold War, can be more attributed to Gorbachev's awesomeness than Reagan. He was just there trying to look like it was all him.

u didnt even mention bubba clinton :(
Only because the previous poster hadn't mentioned him. I'd stick him between Johnson and Kennedy.

Reagan made Americans feel young and strong again. Obama loves him.
And Lincoln was great, but he literally was a massive gay dude. Also mental probs
Kennedy's only significant for Cuban Missile crisis imo, and yeh, bravo

Bush is a symptom not the disease.

His role was to destroy the republican party from within.

Neo Cons are ultimately anti-conservative and believe that destroying the right would strengthen their true political leaning which is the radical left wing world Socialists.

I think he is the best President ever. It will be sad to see him go so soon.

His major achievements

1. brought Democracy and civilisation to Afghanistan, a feat which could not be achieved by neither the British Empire nor USSR. For the first time in Afghanistan's 3000 year history, the people of afghanistan are able to live happily
in peace enjoying freedom and prosperity brought to them by George Bush.

2. Deposed the most brutal dictator of our time Saddam Hussein and brought the first true Democracy in the Middle East after Israel. Ended Oppression of 15 million Iraqi Shia muslims by Saddam Hussein Sunni bath party. The people of Iraq will remember him as their saviour, a liberator and the man who brought justice for millions of Iraqis and tens of thousands of Kuwaitis killed by Saddam Hussein.

3. Granted Independence to Kosovo, for the people of Kosovo he is the man that will go down in history as the Father of Kosovo nation.

4. he succeeded convincing North Korea and Libya to abandon their nuclear programmes. Well done for that.

5. Without his Malaria and Aids funding billions of people will be killed this year alone.

He is the man of our time, the man of the century and most importantly, the BEST President ever.

We get it comrade. Anyone who disagrees with what the President elect tells you to think is "mentally retarded" and should be administered radical new drugs to correct their wayward ways. Ok.

Rar. My opinion of Bush will largely be cemented by his actions over the next 2 months. He's already indicated a willingness to work with Obama to pass legislation before he's even inaugurated, and Bush is leading a pretty excellent early transition effort, so there's plenty of room for improvement.

Bush is a champion and an inspiration
its amazing how an alcoholic and someone so stupid, and awful in public speaking can become the president of the most powerful nation in the world.

I for one will miss his antics and have fond memories of the past 8 years.
