our stores have taken away all the closing signs for some reasons...it gets very annoying! i dont understand why they are doing this....i srsly hope they wont make us sell some products cos im sick and tired of asking for flybuys hahahhaa.

btw....greek gun...usually when im not serving anyone i press the operator button and sign off and when sum1 comes i sign back on..thats what we were told to do and that it wud stop it from monitoring out sales...and every1 does that.,..but i srsly CBF....is there anyone way i can no get monitored for not selling?? if i only press the operator button and stay on the operator page..does it do the same for signing out of not?

Whoever decided to take away our closing signs obviously sit behind a desk all days. I got some fithly looks from customers when I said I was closing + I didn't get out on time because of it. It's not like I can put my sign up while I wait for my supervisor to come over, and I can't leave to get a trolley to put in the lane while I have several customers... arghhhh stupid rule! I've only worked today and I am already sick of telling customers 'sorry I'm closing' and getting the filthy/weird look... hey its not my fault i have no sign!! /end rant

Wow the new push for customer service is really pissing me off.
I did not value the close sign until now.

Is it true that Coles is dropping 20% of its lines? It seems to be that way in our freezer department, the amount of coles brand shit that is on the shelves now it unbelievable.

When I first started, my store had one closed sign between 11 laned registers. Now we have eight, you have to ask for them when you want to close :(
BUt its better than nothing. My point is, I guess, that those closed signs are incredibly important.

We got our closed signs back, yes!
Serious.. the office lady came down and destroyed all of ours..

I'm so sick of getting the biggest dirties.. the managers say "put a trolley through your register".. but seriously.. 99% of the customers don't see you have a trolley through the reg and stare and you and wonder why you're not serving them..

i know!

i just had work tonight for the first time in a while, and i was finishing in 10 mins and people just kept lining up at my register and i had to be like 'oh.. i'm closed, sorry' and they would get the shits at me.
and even when i closed my gate and was doing a spot balance, people still full came up to my register and unpacked, too. and i would be like dude. you're joking?

but fuck the new rule is so stupid.
it's really fucking dumb. i don't get it.

lol they've also posted up this quote in the tearoom about how the customer is the best and we would be nothing without them etc etc
soo gay

Ok.. so the deal is that right now, between stores like Woolies, Coles, IGA, etc the prices are similar wherever you go.. So what the supermarkets are thinking now that, instead of changing the price to attract customers.. they should change the customer service to attract customers..

Which apparently includes the removal of close signs because the whole push for getting customers in and out.. them being able to queue up at any register and getting served as fast as possible, no waiting, maybe they'll return bcos the service is so awesome and fast..

So now we also have to open up a new register if there's more than two people in line.. Also, since we have no close sign we have to "escort" people around asking them if they'd like to "come to register six" instead of saying "register five is closed".. Then shove a trolley as fast as possible into reg5.

how stupid, speedy service doesnt = good customer service, sure it's a part of it, but it's not the whole picture, and i think it would be to coles detriment if they got too focused on that. because then you just get cashiers thinking "gotta serve customers as quickly as possible" and so they forget the pleasantries, and listening, and doing something extra
