The USYD international exchange booklet says a credit average is needed to be accepted for student exchange. Are you likely to be accepted if your credit average is about 70 or do you need to be getting distinctions to be accepted by UK or US universities (realistically)? Just wondering because it all sounds very competitive.

Yes, thanks for that. In the meantime, i am interested in knowing what average mark people got and what overseas uni they were accepted into.

There is a strict quota for every exchange universitites. If it is 5 max, then the top 5 candidates would go.

Just remember, it is not just about credit average. You must give 'statement of purpose', reference from your referee and an interview in which they will tell you hard questions.

Have fun ya'll!

Credit average shouldn't be that hard. Think about it. Why would a university would send a dumb student overseas which would make a mockery of your university's reputation abroad? Quality students abroad are like ambassadors for foreign universities which builds up prestige. All the dumb students would do is whine about not able to handle independence and responsibility and come back bedding back in Sydney when they failed classes which means dumping you out of uni altogether.

Trust me, it has happened. True story!

V. late reply, but it depends on the universities you're looking at. My friend got into Imperial for Engo, she's on a high Distinction average, Imperial is extremely competitive. UC Berkeley, Harvard and what not are also hard places to get exchange at. It all depends. Also, if you're doing a specialist degree, you may be eligible for both specialist spots and "open" spots, so if you're a health science student, you can apply for both health science and open spots, but whether at the same institution or not I'm not sure so you need to check that out.

Imperial would be a pretty boring place to go. Unless you love studying.
