Do you think trainee-ships are usual in Employment? Can I do one while working? And if I do decide to do a trainee-ship NOW, will I be able to finish a certificate by February?
Usually Cert 2 is done as an HSC course (Retail Operations). Although I think the intake has just been done, so I don't know if you're able to sign up for one for next year now. When you start, talk to your restaurant manager, let them know you're keen, and they might be able to work something out for you

Strange. I got a McDonalds interview but I'm about to turn 18 in less than a month. If I am employed, would they even give me shifts?

Personally, if I'm going to work for a bigger Retailer (and trust me, I want to) then I'll need to get some solid work experience first. I'm aiming for ESPRIT, COUNTRY ROAD, and ROGER DAVID in the future, once I have a solid resume.
good luck for esprit, i just went through a 3 stage recruitment for them and was rejected at the very last stage. i wish i was rejected first up so i didn't waste my time with a trial and miss out on other jobs. fucking ugh, i have 5 years retail experience too.

Well, I got the job, but PHEW! Did anyone know the Welcome to Maccas module was going to be this long? I'm already 2 hours into it.

Dear Timothy Bohlsen,

Thank you for your application to join McDonald's North Ryde and in particular for taking the time to attend the interview.

I have given careful consideration to your application however, on this occasion, I have identified another applicant who more closely meets our needs at this time.

Although you were not successful on this occasion, I will keep your application on file and may contact you again some time in the future when a suitable position becomes available.

Once again, thank you for your interest and application in joining McDonald's North Ryde.

Kind Regards

McDonald's North Ryde

Hey, sorry about that. I bet it sucks. Is there another Macca's near your area you have transport to? Maybe it's a good idea if you try out for 3 stores all at once and see where that gets you. My first application to Liverpool Megacentre was rejected before I even got an interview.

The second time I applied for Liverpool West, Liverpool Westfields Food Court, and Liverpool Plaza. I found it easier this way.

Don't give up. Sometimes, it'll take a few No's before you get accepted. Just keep applying for other stores and eventually you'll make the cut. Try KFC, Red Rooster and Hungry Jacks too (although HJ can take up to a month) too.

Re: McDonalds Interview

I applied for Chatswood F/C McDonalds (I do it 1 at a time so I don't have to choose if more than 1 mcdonalds accept me at a time)

F/C = Food Court

I fucking hate this line.... It's like saying, "You failed but I'll write this to you anyway so you don't bother applying again..."

Sorry about the rejection but its a good learning experience and will build your resilience as you keep searching. Good luck!

Re: McDonalds Interview

stress less its only maccas...LMAO if u got a job at a bunnings store you'd be earning twice the amount u would at any maccas store unless you went for a managerial position (presuming by ur age ur not) as for other qualifications the cert II in retail op. is only optional at my store where i worked wasnt really interested in past qualifications... but better luck next time...believe me maccas isnt all that

Yeah, but it reinforces the idea that you can't just get a job at any Maccas.

I get this response this time:

Date: Wednesday 26/11/2008 7:57:04 PM

Dear Timothy Bohlsen,

Thank you for your application.

Unfortunately, at this point in time, we have filled all positions. However, unless you request otherwise, we will hold onto your application for 90 days, in the event that a position does become available.

In the interim, if you have not already done so, please feel free to apply to another McDonald's restaurant of your choice.

Kind Regards

McDonald's Chatswood F/C

I also have a McDonalds interview...

So I think lots of people on the forum work there or have at least had interviews; what kinds of questions will they ask and are they looking for anything special apart from the usual (outgoing, initiative, social responsibility, good school results, blaaa...)

And does the fact that I even have an interview mean I have a good chance? I've never actually even made it to an interview at anywhere I've applied. I'm turning 18 in just over a month and have no experience (apart from work experience at an old folks' home and some voluntary tutoring), so that might hurt my chances, I'm afraid...

Re: I also have a McDonalds interview...

They might ask you why you want the job, how you will contribute, what are your hobbies [be honest] and other personality questions.

Macdonalds aren't too hard on interviews. The first thing my manager asked me for was proof of right to work in australia, and then personality questions. Questions like, "why should I hire you" and "how will you contribute" really basic stuff. If they ask you when you're available to work, that's generally a good sign.

If you mention teamwork, they'll be impressed, so make it absolutely clear that you are a TEAM PLAYER. They're not concerned about your school results; they just want a responsible and reliable person. As long as you show that you want the job you'll get it.

Re: I also have a McDonalds interview...

Okay, sounds easy enough! I might have to plan some answers in advance though because I do have a bit of a problem with social anxiety and might blush and stutter in the interview :uhoh: but once I've got the job I should be fine. Asking people if they want fries with that isn't that hard!

Re: I also have a McDonalds interview...

Some people just overthink. They'll hire you even if you're retarded (but have good availability). Maccas is the bottom of the food chain when it comes to jobs (I wouldn't even call it a job).

Re: I also have a McDonalds interview...

Maccas just sits you down at one of their tables and asks when you're available to work. Nothing else.

I know this is a stupid question, but what should I wear? Do I have to wear complete job interview garb or just neat casual? It's only frickin' McDonalds...
