do you think the media completely is at fault with young people's body image issues, or does it just play into already established stereotypes?

The media do unrealistically represent body image, but you have to remember that they publish what people demand. Eg. if people wanted to see skinny, untanned men with less than a six pack in undies ads, then thats how it would be marketed.

Don't blame 'the media', they're there to make money from giving you what you want.

why do you think people demand this? why is it that we want this representation?

hey, i am doing my own schoolwork. it's getting formed into a debate that's not part of my assessment. just looking for different ideas and opinions out there.
