Title: Breath OR Cloudstreet
Author: both by Tim Winton
Genre: real life, drama?
Medium (fiction, non-fiction, novel, novella, poetry, biography etc): fiction novels
Why You Should Read It: Tim Winton's writing is amazing - his characterisation, I just was in love of both of those books because of his writing.. and a bit of a more unique maybe more challenging read. Cloudstreet better in my opinion but both were so good, so real

Not sure if someone's already recommend this, but i absolutely loved 'Nineteen Minutes' by Jodie Picoult. I totally recommend it.

the best book i've ever read.

its extremely deep and emotional.

about a high school shooting from the point of view of the shooter and the people around him. bullying plays a huge part.

desert flower by waris dirie
autobiography, powerful and moving as well as frank and honest about her experiences making it on her own and the customs of somalia particularly female circumcision. I'm one of the most cold hearted sadistic people on earth but i cried!

totally agree with people who recomended 1984 and My Sisters Keeper

another good book is chinese cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah

how predictable that people said twilight, I'm so sick of that book ...sighs

Good God, trust me, you do not want to read this book. It is dull and the stupidity of Sal (even though this is how Kerouac presumably behaved/thought/acted) is utterly frustrating. By the time I got to the last 30 pages, I skipped to the end (I had to do it for yr 10 english) because its boring nature had become amplified to an intolerable extent. The entire English class seemed to hold this view unanimously.

Save yourself from the dull, and go read the Iliad and Gulliver's travels (but make sure its not the bowdlerised kid's version).

love catch-22, the catcher in the rye, lord of the flies everything by chuck palhaniuk, tim winton. Why on earth does everyone like Jodi Piccoult? ha.

Title: Rebecca
Author: Daphne Du Maurier
Genre: 'gothic' literature apparently.
Medium (fiction, non-fiction, novel, novella, poetry, biography etc): novel, fiction, amazing.
Why You Should Read It: It's a beautifully composed classic. Dark and intriguing, whats better than dark and intriguing?

Title: A thousand splendid suns/ kite runner
Author: Khaled Hosseini
Genre: 'literature'
Medium (fiction, non-fiction, novel, novella, poetry, biography etc): novels.
Why You Should Read It: Beautifully written, devastatingly sad, combines interesting plots with historic events, brings to light some of the injustices of the world and educates you about a culture which you may not know much about. Amazing characters also.

half way through this. not sure if i like it?
it seems a bit drawn out... although good story line. some of the characters are seriously starting to annoy me.

oh! and i recommend "the memory keeper's daughter". very interesting insight into the life of a girl with down syndrome and her twin brother born in the 60s, and how they grow up not knowing each other. touches on society's views of the mentally challenged and how this changes.

Ignore this goose. Read On The Road. Dig life, dig it all.

Don't waste your time - read something that is a) interesting; and b) explores concepts worthwhile learning about. Unfortuantely, On the Road has neither

Are you telling us to read Oxford Dictionary for advanced vocab nerds?

Because the ability to appreciate all that surrounds you, and to never settle for mediocrity is not a worthwhile concept. Shit damn!

Why You Should Read It: This is one of the greatest books i have ever read. I used to read boks just for entertainment but this book has shown me that books can be used to get a message across(I know it seems obvious but still no one thinks about it)..I have to say that the issues addressed in the novel really leave a deep impression. The book is the first part of a trilogy and most ingeniously, creates a world where it is the whites who are the second class citizens of society. It paints a picture of "what if our roles were reveresed..." Overall, I'd say it is an eye opener to the harsh facts of life and shows how sometimes even the news and media lies(another obvious fact I never thought of).. I'd recommend it strongly to anyone who likes close to reality books with no fantasy involved..Each books ending leaves the reader hanging for more..
